Key Takeaways
-
Maruti Dzire has replaced the Hyundai Creta to secure the top position in the best-selling cars list for May 2025. Maruti sold over 18,000 units of the Dzire, posting a 6 percent month-on-month (MoM) and 13 percent year-on-year (YoY) growth.
-
The Maruti Ertiga witnessed an increase in demand this May as it secured the second position on the list. Over 16,000 units of the MPV were sold, resulting in a 2 percent growth in its monthly sales and a 16 percent growth compared to May 2024.
-
The Maruti Brezza retained its third position with over 15,500 units sold in May 2025. While its May 2025 sales increased by 10 percent from May 2024, its MoM sales declined by 8 percent.
-
The Hyundai Creta slipped to fourth position this month, losing its top spot. The Korean carmaker sold over 2,000 fewer units in May 2025 compared to April 2025, accounting for a MoM drop of 13 percent. However, its YoY sales saw a marginal growth of 1 percent. Do note that these figures also include the Creta N Line and Creta Electric.
-
The Mahindra Scorpio also retained its position on the list with a 5 percent yearly gain. However, unlike in April 2025, this time its monthly sales dropped by 7 percent. Note that both the Scorpio Classic and Scorpio N contribute to these figures.
-
The Maruti Swift and Wagon R hatchbacks have both moved up in the rankings. However, only the Wagon R saw some growth, thanks to its 4 percent MoM increase. In comparison, Swift experienced a significant YoY decline of 27 percent.
-
Following the Maruti hatchbacks, the Fronx crossover SUV retained its eighth position on the sales chart. Its MoM sales dropped by 5 percent, while it saw a 7 percent increase in May 2025 compared to May 2024.
-
The Tata Punch and Punch EV collectively moved up the order, seeing a 5 percent increase in their monthly sales in May 2025. However, the Nexon and Nexon EV’s combined sales dropped significantly, with a 15 percent MoM decline.
-
The Maruti Eeco also climbed up one position on the list, recording an 8 percent MoM growth and a 12 percent YoY increase. On the other hand, the Maruti Baleno saw a drop in sales, with a 12 percent MoM decline and a 10 percent YoY decline.
-
The Mahindra Thar nameplate once again registered the highest YoY growth, which is understandable given that the five-door Thar Roxx arrived in August 2024. Unlike its growth in April 2025, its May sales witnessed a 3 percent MoM drop. These figures account for both the three-door and five-door versions.
-
Mahindra’s third SUV on the list, the Bolero, held its place in the sales chart thanks to a 7 percent MoM increase, while its yearly demand also surged by 11 percent.
-
Lastly, the Toyota Innova nameplate is the new entrant on this list for the month. Combined sales of the Innova Crysta and Innova Hycross resulted in a 15 percent MoM increase and a 4 percent YoY growth.
