Mercedes-Benz S-Class expert overview
Overview
Mercedes-Benz has introduced the facelifted version of the S-Class in India, bringing one of the most prominent updates to its flagship luxury sedan in recent years. The 2026 model of the luxury sedan comes with a refreshed exterior design, a completely redesigned feature-rich cabin, upgraded safety features and a new plug-in hybrid powertrain option.
The updated S-Class made its global debut earlier in 2026 and has now arrived in the Indian market. With a more premium design language, advanced technology and improved comfort features, the facelifted S-Class continues to be the benchmark luxury sedan in India. We expect it to remain a top pick among the wealthy businessmen, celebrities and politicians.
Exterior
The 2026 Mercedes-Benz S-Class facelift retains the iconic silhouette of the flagship sedan but receives several subtle design changes to give it a more modern and premium appearance. The front of the updated S-Class now gets a larger grille, giving it a more imposing stance.

The facelifted model also features redesigned LED headlamps with updated lighting signatures, which offer around 40 percent better illumination compared to the outgoing model.

One of the biggest visual highlights is the new illuminated grille, making it the first S-Class to feature this design element. The front bumper has also been slightly redesigned, giving it a breath of fresh air.

In profile, the S-Class continues with its sleek proportions, while new 20-inch dual-tone alloy wheels designs help differentiate the facelifted model from the previous version.

It gets a premium flush-fitted door and chrome surrounds around the window for added bling.

At the rear, the biggest update comes in the form of redesigned LED tail lamps.

The new lighting setup features Mercedes' three-pointed stars, giving the sedan a more stylish look at night. The rear bumper also gets minor revisions to round off the refreshed design.

Overall, the facelifted S-Class maintains its premium and sophisticated design while adding modern details to keep it updated in the luxury sedan segment. Fancy taking a closer look at the new S-Class? Head to our detailed image gallery.

Interior
The interior of the 2026 Mercedes-Benz S-Class facelift receives a major upgrade, with Mercedes-Benz now introducing a more technology-forward cabin. The biggest highlight is the new ‘Superscreen’ setup, which consists of a 14.4-inch central touchscreen, a 12.3-inch passenger-side display and a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display into one integrated setup.

The new display system runs on Mercedes-Benz’s latest MB.OS software architecture, which controls various vehicle functions, entertainment systems and connected features.

It now comes with turbine-inspired AC vents placed on both ends, giving the cabin a more futuristic and quirky appearance.

The steering wheel has been redesigned and now features physical controls for easier access to important functions.

The centre console features dual wireless charging pads, allowing front passengers to charge two smartphones simultaneously. And obviously, Mercedes is known for its brilliant ambient lighting setup and it's no different in the S-Class.

At the rear, the S-Class continues to focus on passenger comfort with seats offering up to 43.5 degrees of recline.

The rear seats also retain features such as heating, ventilation and massage functions.

Rear occupants also get their dedicated screens, which help rear passengers remain entertained throughout the journey.

As you would expect, there are multiple interior themes for you to choose from. This allows customers to customise the cabin according to their preferences.
Features
The new Mercedes-Benz S-Class facelift receives several technology and infotainment upgrades while continuing to offer a premium luxury experience that the S-Class brand is known for.

Apart from the aforementioned screens, the S-Class facelift comes with features like a dual-pane panoramic sunroof, 13.6-inch rear entertainment screens, 4-zone climate control, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, connected car technology, Burmester 4D Surround Sound System with 31 speakers, eight seat exciters, 1,610 W output and Dolby Atmos support, dual wireless phone chargers, multi-colour ambient lighting, as well as rear-seat massage and ventilation functions.
With these upgrades, the S-Class continues to remain one of the most advanced luxury sedans in the segment.
Safety

The updated safety package includes Level-2 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems), as well as an upgraded automatic parking assist system. The ADAS suite enhances safety and convenience by assisting the driver in various situations,
You also get your expected safety features like a tyre pressure monitoring system, parking sensors, and a surround-view camera.
Performance
For the first time, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class is available with a plug-in hybrid powertrain in India. The S450e PHEV combines a 3-litre inline-six petrol engine with a 163 PS electric motor and a 22 kWh battery pack. Here are its specifications:
| Engine | 3-litre inline-six petrol engine with plug-in hybrid |
| Power | 435 PS |
| Torque | 680 Nm |
| Transmission | 9-speed AT |

The S450 petrol focuses on delivering smooth and refined performance. With a full battery, Mercedes claims it can do 115 km just on electric power. The S-Class also comes with rear-wheel steering that improves manoeuvrability at low speeds and stability at higher speeds. The air suspension system continues to deliver the signature S-Class ride quality with a focus on comfort and refinement.
Verdict
The 2026 Mercedes-Benz S-Class facelift brings important upgrades, especially in the cabin and powertrain departments. Mercedes enthusiasts would welcome the refreshed design, futuristic cabin and advanced technology features.
While the exterior changes are evolutionary, the redesigned interior with the new Superscreen setup, MB.OS software and an enhanced rear-seat experience make the S-Class feel more modern and premium than before.
With segment-leading safety features and the availability of a plug-in hybrid powertrain, the updated S-Class continues to set the benchmark for luxury sedans in India. The facelift improves on an already well-curated recipe and will likely attract even more buyers now with the crucial updates
