Honda Amaze 2nd Gen expert overview
Overview
The second-generation Honda Amaze still offers great value for money by packing in all the basic features along with the same reliable 1.2-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine. First launched in 2018, the Amaze received its last update in 2021. Despite being from an older generation, it still offers a competitive package and offers decent cabin space. If you're in the market for a sub-4m sedan and want to save some money, the previous-generation Amaze remains a solid option.
Exterior
With its last midlife update in 2021, the second-generation Honda Amaze gets enough design elements that make it look relevant in the market.
Up front, it features a chunky chrome bar along with twin chrome slats. Since it’s only offered in the lower-spec S variant, it comes with a halogen projector headlamp setup. What’s also missing are fog lights, although the housings are surrounded by chrome.
In profile, the second-generation Amaze no longer gets 15-inch alloy wheels, instead, it runs on smaller 14-inch steel wheels with wheel covers. The turn indicators are mounted on the ORVMs (outside rearview mirrors). Despite being offered in the base-spec S variant, it still features a shark-fin antenna, giving it a modern touch.
At the rear, it gets wraparound C-shaped LED tail lights while the bumper gets a chrome strip and reflectors on the either side. There’s also an ‘S’ variant badging on the tailgate.
Honda offers the second-generation Amaze in five colour options: Meteoroid Gray Metallic, Radiant Red Metallic, Platinum White Pearl, Lunar Silver Metallic, and Golden Brown Metallic. We personally like the Golden Brown Metallic colour on the Amaze, as it gives the sedan an upmarket and sophisticated look.
Interior
The second-generation Honda Amaze gets a dual-tone black and beige cabin theme, complemented by beige fabric upholstery on the seats. The dashboard, steering wheel, and door panels feature silver highlights, giving it a nice contrast Thanks to the beige cabin, the Amaze feels airier and spacious inside.
Honda offers the second-generation Amaze with a foldable rear armrest featuring cup holders, however, it misses out on rear AC vents. While the front seat headrests are adjustable, the rear ones are fixed. As for comfort, the Amaze remains a spacious offering with the ability to accommodate two six footers back to back.
For added convenience, a power outlet is also provided for rear-seat passengers to keep their devices topped up.
Features
Features
When it comes to the feature list on the Amaze second-generation, it’s quite basic as it’s now offered in a single variant. It gets a 2-din audio system and misses out on touchscreen. Other features on board the second-generation Amaze 4 speaker sound system, manual AC, manual day and night IRVM (inside rear view mirror), steering mounted controls, all four door power windows with one touch down for the driver’s side, electrically adjustable and foldable ORVMs, and keyless entry.
It misses out on modern features such as auto AC, cruise control, rear AC vents, and digital driver’s display. Do note that all these features are being offered with the third-generation Honda Amaze.
Safety
The India-spec second-generation Amaze was last crash tested by Global NCAP in 2024, in which it scored just 2 stars for adult occupant protection and 0 star for child occupant protection.
In terms of safety features, it comes with dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, seatbelt reminder for all 5 seats, rear parking sensors, and ISOFIX child seat anchorage. The second-generation Amaze doesn’t get a rear view camera or any advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), both of which are limited to the third-generation Amaze.
Boot Space
You can load up to 420 litres of luggage inside the boot of the second-generation Honda Amaze. It can comfortably accommodate a large, medium and small suitcase set with space remaining for some soft bags.
Performance
The second-generation Honda Amaze is only being offered with a single 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, available with both manual and CVT (continuously variable transmission). The detailed specifications are as follows:
| Engine | 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol |
| Power (PS) | 90 PS |
| Torque (Nm) | 110 Nm |
| Transmission | 5-speed MT, CVT |
| Claimed Fuel Efficiency | 18.60 kmpl (MT), 18.30 kmpl (CVT) |
The 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine delivers a smooth and refined driving experience. It’s well-suited for city commutes, while highway cruising feels relaxed. However, the engine lacks punch in the mid range, and quick overtakes require a downshift and some planning. Opting for the CVT automatic variant makes driving even smoother and more hassle-free. All in all, the Amaze second-generation is meant for relaxed driving.
Variants
The second-generation Honda Amaze only comes in a single S trim. Available in both manual and CVT automatic gearbox options, it is priced between Rs 7.63 lakh and Rs 8.53 lakh. Note that customers will have to pay a price premium of Rs 6,000 for the Platinum White Pearl colour option of the second-generation Amaze. (All prices are ex-showroom Delhi).
