Tata Sierra EV

The Tata Sierra EV concept was first displayed at the 2020 Auto Expo and was last seen in its near-production concept stage at the 2023 Auto Expo. It is based on the Sierra ICE, which is slated for a launch on November 25, 2026

Expected to go on sale later next year, the Sierra EV will sit above the Nexon.EV and Currv.EV and just below the Harrier EV, completing Tata’s electric SUV portfolio.

At first glance, the Sierra EV concept appears to be a blend of nostalgia and modern design. Its upright stance, flat bonnet, and boxy proportions pay homage to the original Sierra from the ‘90s, while the smooth surfaces, connected LED lighting, and flush door handles bring it straight into the EV age.

Up front, you get a sleek LED light bar that runs the width of the car, neatly integrated with slim headlamps and a closed-off grille, something that’s a signature look for Tata’s electric lineup. The muscular bumpers, squared-off wheel arches, and chunky body cladding give it that proper SUV appeal.

But my favourite part of the design is the side profile; the distinctive blacked-out rear window section is back, instantly recognisable to anyone who remembers the old Sierra. It’s one of those rare design cues that connects generations of car lovers. At the rear, the design is clean and futuristic, highlighted by a full-width LED tail lamp that gives the SUV a wide, planted stance.

Tata hasn’t revealed the final cabin yet, but the concept gives us a good glimpse of what’s coming. The Sierra EV’s cabin looks minimalistic and airy, with a strong focus on making it feel roomy.

You’ll spot a dual-screen setup, one for the instrument cluster and one for the infotainment, much like Tata’s newer EVs. It might also get a triple-screen setup, which we have already seen on test mules of the Sierra EV's ICE counterpart. 

It will also get Tata's four-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated Tata logo that we have seen on their recent launches. The dashboard design is clean, with dual-tone materials and soft finishes.

Wide glass panels and a light colour palette make the cabin feel bright and inviting.

Features

While Tata hasn’t disclosed the complete feature list yet, the Sierra EV is expected to come packed with tech and convenience. The concept already showcases a panoramic sunroof, powered and ventilated front seats, dual-zone climate control, and connected car technology.

Expect the production model to also include features like ambient lighting, a wireless phone charger, and a premium sound system.

Given Tata’s track record, the Sierra EV will likely offer plenty of segment-first features when it finally hits showrooms.

Safety is one area where Tata rarely compromises, and the Sierra EV is expected to carry that reputation forward. The concept showcased features like Level-2 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems), electronic stability control (ESC), hill hold assist, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and a 360-degree camera.

We can expect up to six or seven airbags, ABS with EBD, and more as part of its safety suite. Given Tata’s history of strong safety ratings, the Sierra EV will likely score well in Bharat NCAP crash tests once tested.

Tata hasn’t officially revealed the technical specs yet, but the Sierra EV will be based on the brand’s new Gen 2 Acti.ev platform, the same architecture that underpins the Curvv EV and the Harrier EV.

We expect it to be offered with two battery pack options, delivering a claimed range of up to 500 km on a full charge. There might also be front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive variants, catering to different driving preferences, making it available in a single motor or dual motor setup.

DC fast-charging capability is a given, and features like Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) and Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) charging are likely to make the cut, allowing you to power external gadgets or even charge another EV.
