    Maruti Dzire Bharat NCAP vs Global NCAP Crash Test Comparison

    While the Dzire managed to secure 5 stars in Adult Occupant Protection in both tests, the Child Occupant Protection scores are different

    Maruti Dzire Bharat NCAP vs Global NCAP test compared

    After the Tata Nexon, the Maruti Dzire has become the next car in India to be crash tested by both Bharat NCAP and Global NCAP. While the sub-4m sedan earned 5 stars in its Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) tests at both Global and Bharat NCAP, the Child Occupant Protection (COP) rating was different in both tests. Let us take a look at the differences in scores and ratings by both cars in both Bharat NCAP and Global NCAP.

    Maruti Dzire Bharat NCAP Tests

    Maruti Dzire Bharat NCAP AOP test

    At Bharat NCAP, the Maruti Dzire received ‘good’ protection for the driver’s head, neck, pelvis, thighs and feet in the frontal offset deformable barrier test. Even the co-driver’s head, neck, thighs and left tibia received ‘good’ protection. Protection to the driver’s chest was rated ‘marginal’, while for the tibias, it was ‘adequate’. Safety to the co-driver’s chest and right tibia was rated ‘adequate’.

    In the side movable deformable barrier test, protection to the head, torso and abdomen was ‘good’, while for the chest, it was ‘adequate’. However, all parts of the driver got ‘good’ protection in the side pole impact test.

    In its Bharat NCAP COP tests, the sub-4m sedan received a dynamic score of 23.57 out of 24 points. While it scored full points for the 18-month-old dummy’s front and side protection, the 3-year-old dummy fetched a total score of 7.57 out of 8 points in its frontal collision test and received full 4 out of 4 points for side protection.

    At Global NCAP, the Maruti Dzire in its frontal offset deformable barrier test, provided ‘good’ protection to the driver and co-driver’s head, neck and thighs. The driver’s feet also received ‘good’ protection and tibia protection for both the front row passengers was rated ‘adequate’.  That said, the driver’s chest received ‘marginal’ protection, which was ‘adequate’ for the co-driver.

    In the side movable deformable barrier test, all parts of the driver received ‘good’ protection, but in the side pole impact test, protection to the chest was noted ‘marginal’. Other parts received ‘good’ safety in this test.

    In the COP tests at the Global NCAP, both the 18-month-old and 3-year-old dummies received full points in the front and side collisions. However, Global NCAP releases details about the COP tests. It has hence mentioned that the 3-year-old’s child restraint system (CRS) provided full protection to the head and chest of the dummy, but limited protection to the neck in the frontal impact test. However, in the side impact tests, all parts received full protection, similar to the 18-month-old dummy’s front and side impact tests.

    In the AOP tests, the Maruti Dzire performed similarly in its frontal offset deformable barrier tests in both Bharat NCAP and Global NCAP. The only difference was protection to the co-driver’s left tibia, which was rated to provide ‘good’ protection in Bharat NCAP but ‘adequate’ in Global NCAP.

    There was a prominent difference in the side pole impact tests as well. In Global NCAP, the Dzire provided ‘marginal’ protection to the driver’s chest and ‘good’ protection to all other parts.  On the flipside, In Bharat NCAP all parts of the driver received ‘good’ protection.

    On the other hand, while the Global NCAP model offered ‘good’ protection to the driver, the tested Bharat NCAP car provided ‘good’ protection to all parts except the chest which received an ‘adequate’ rating.

    Safety Features

    The Maruti Dzire's safety suite consists of six airbags (as standard), electronic stability control (ESC), a 360-degree camera and rear parking sensors. It is also equipped with hill hold assist, rear defogger and 3-point seatbelts with seatbelt reminders on all seats.

    Price And Rivals

    The Maruti Dzire is priced between Rs 6.84 lakh and Rs 10.19 lakh (ex-showroom, pan-India) and it locks horns with the Hyundai Aura, Honda Amaze and Tata Tigor.
