With this development, the Dzire is the first Maruti car to be crash tested by both Bharat and Global NCAP
Two Maruti cars have been crash tested by Bharat NCAP for the first time and the results are encouraging. The Maruti Dzire has secured a 5-star safety rating from Bharat NCAP, whereas the Baleno has scored four stars. The Dzire also becomes the only Maruti car to be tested by both Bharat and Global NCAP.
Without further ado, let’s decode their scores.

Child Occupant Protection |
41.57 / 49 (5 Stars) |
As seen in the table above, the Maruti Dzire has secured 5 stars in both Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and Child Occupant Protection (COP).
Starting with the AOP, the frontal offset deformable barrier test showed that the Dzire offered good protection to the head, neck, pelvis and femur (thighs) of both front occupants. Even the driver’s feet and co-driver’s left tibias had received a good protection rating. The driver’s chest only got “marginal” whereas the same for the co-driver was rated adequate. Both the driver’s tibias and the co-driver’s right tibias were also rated as adequate.
In the side pole impact test and side deformable barrier test, the Dzire offered good protection to the driver’s head, abdomen and pelvis. It’s just that in the side deformable barrier test, the chest got only “adequate” shielding.
Bharat NCAP doesn’t provide a detailed report for COP, but here’s a breakdown of the score in the table below:

The Maruti Baleno is offered with variants featuring both dual and six airbags. Bharat NCAP has tested both the variants of the Baleno.
In the frontal offset deformable barrier test, both the dual and six airbags variants of the Baleno offered good protection to both the front occupant’s head and neck. However, the tibias of both the front occupants as well as the co-driver’s chest, pelvis and femur was only rated as adequate. The latter three body parts of the driver’s dummy were rated as marginal.
The Baleno aced it in the side deformable barrier test with a perfect good rating for the head, chest, abdomen and hips.
However, the main difference in the scores between both the versions were seen in the side pole impact test. The dual airbags variant managed to offer only adequate protection to the driver’s head and abdomen, whereas in the six airbags variant, both these criteria were rated as good. Also, the chest in the two airbags model got only marginal protection, whereas the same in the six airbags version was rated as adequate.
Meanwhile, the COP are the same between both the Balenos and here’s a quick breakdown of the score:
