Key Takeaways:

  • Carmakers were heavily suffering due to the paucity of semiconductors in September 2021, which led to a sharp decline in the sales of their products. That’s why the YoY growth is higher for most of the models here.

  • Maruti Alto regains the pole position after several months, thanks to the recently launched Alto K10. Its yearly, as well as monthly, sales have grown by around 100 per cent or by over 10,000 units.

  • The Wagon R is the runner up, reporting sales of just over 20,000 units. It sees a 160 per cent jump in sales from September 2021 and the monthly sales have risen up by around 2,000 units.

  • Maruti Baleno reports similar monthly sales figures, but over the past year, it has reported a sales growth of 140 per cent or around 10,000 units.

  • The Brezza sees a massive YoY sales increase of 724 per cent! With over 15,000 units sold in September, it overtakes the Nexon as the best-selling SUV in India for the second consecutive month.

  • Around 1,000 units short is the Tata Nexon in sixth place. While yearly sales have improved, the monthly figures have dropped by 500 units.

  • The next position is taken up by another SUV, the Hyundai Creta. The best-selling Hyundai has sold over 12,000 units, which is a 60 per cent increase when compared to September 2021.

  • Maruti’s humble workshorse, the Eeco van, secures the eight position with 12,697 units sold.

  • The Tata Punch has reported over 12,250 units in September, seeing a small 250 unit jump compared to August.

  • Maruti sold almost 12,000 units of the Swift, seeing a 376 per cent jump in the YoY sales.

  • At the tenth place we have the Hyundai Venue, which is five positions behind its prime competitor, the Maruti Brezza.

  • Kia Seltos is the last car in this list with over 10,000 unit sales. It sold around 1,800 units less than its sibling from another mother, the Hyundai Creta.

  • The only sedan in this list, the Maruti Dzire, sees a 2,000 unit dip in the monthly sales.

  • Mahindra Scorpio makes it to the top 15 selling cars list as the deliveries of the new Scorpio N commenced on September 26. The number includes sales of both the Classic and the Scorpio N.

  • Hyundai’s entry-level hatchback secures the second last position with an average of around 9,000 units sold.

  • The last place is taken up by the Maruti Ertiga, which is the only car in the list to report a negative sales growth.
