The Performance-oriented Variants Of The Mercedes-Benz E-Class Are Finally Here

Modified On Jul 15, 2021 03:26 PM By Rohit for Mercedes-Benz E-Class

The facelifted E 53 and E 63S are priced at Rs 1.02 crore and Rs 1.70 crore respectively

  • Both the models feature cosmetic changes such as revised bumpers, AMG-esque front grille, and 20-inch alloy wheels.

  • Inside, they get a new AMG dual-spoke steering wheel and AMG-related graphics in the infotainment systems.

  • While the E 53 is powered by a 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder petrol engine, the E 63S is offered with a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8.

  • The E 53 has no direct rivals for now whereas the E 63S goes up against the facelifted BMW M5.

After launching the facelifted E-Class in March 2021, Mercedes-Benz has now brought the facelifted versions of the sedan’s AMG-oriented E 53 (first time in India) and E 63S 4MATIC+ variants to India. Here’s a look at how they are priced:

Variant

Price

E 53 4MATIC+

Rs 1.02 crore

E 63S 4MATIC+

Rs 1.70 crore

Both the models get design updates, making them look more in line with the latest AMG cars in Mercedes-Benz’s global lineup. They feature the AMG-esque Panamericana front grille with ‘AMG’ moniker and revised front bumpers. The two AMG models are seen with the same LED headlamps as the facelifted E-Class and come with up to 20-inch alloy wheels (with red brake calipers on the E 63S). At the rear, both get split-LED tail lights and a revised rear bumper housing quad exhausts to complement the AMG appeal.

Inside, the changes are quite minimal compared to the exterior. Both models get the new AMG dual-spoke steering wheel along with AMG-specific graphics in their dual screen setup (operating on Merc’s MBUX system). However, the dashboard layout is the same as their pre-facelift versions.

Both the models are offered with AMG-specific upholstery, heated front seats, dual 12.3-inch displays, 64-colour ambient lighting, and tri-zone climate control. The E 63S also gets a few exclusives including a heads-up display and AMG buttons on the steering wheel. Safety net includes a tyre pressure monitoring system, a 360-degree camera, and autonomous emergency braking.

Under the hood, the E 63S gets the same 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine (612PS/850Nm) as the pre-facelift model (now with cylinder deactivation). It comes coupled with a 9-speed automatic gearbox, powering all the four wheels. The E 63S can do the 0-100kmph sprint in 3.4 seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 300kmph.

On the other hand, the E 53 is equipped with a 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder turbo-petrol engine (435PS/520Nm), paired to a 9-speed automatic transmission. This unit is also offered with a 48V mild-hybrid system that provides an additional 22PS and 250Nm under hard acceleration. The E 53 comes with Mercedes’s four-wheel drive system.

While the E 63S serves as an alternative to the new facelifted BMW M5, the E 53 has no direct rivals.
