Mahindra XUV500 W6 Automatic Launched at Rs 14.29 lakh

In order to make the Mahindra XUV500's two-pedal model more accessible, the Indian automaker has launched the W6 (front-wheel drive) variant of the SUV with an automatic gearbox at a price of Rs 14.29 lakh ex-showroom Navi Mumbai. Mahindra gave the XUV500 the much needed option of an auto-box last year. Launched at a price of Rs 15.53 lakh ex-showroom Delhi, the transmission was earlier offered in only three variants - W8 front-wheel drive (FWD), W10 front-wheel drive (FWD) and W10 all-wheel drive (AWD).

Speaking on the introduction of the automatic transmission in the XUV500 W6 FWD variant, Vivek Nayer, chief marketing officer, automotive division, MM Ltd. said, "The automatic transmission of the new age XUV500 has resonated very well with our customers since we launched it in November 2015. I am sure that the availability of the automatic transmission across variants and a range of price points will now render this technology more accessible to a larger base of customers and make the XUV500 a more attractive proposition amongst a wide spectrum of buyers.”

Powering the XUV500 is Mahindra's ‘mHawk' 140, 2.2-litre diesel engine that produces 142 PS of power @ 3,750 rpm and 330 Nm of torque @ 1,600 - 2,800 rpm. Sending the grunt to the front-wheels (all four wheels in the W10 AWD auto) is a 6-speed, torque-converter automatic gearbox that has been sourced from AISIN Japan. This fully-imported gearbox is the same unit that is used in the SsangYong Tivoli.
