Volkswagen Taigun expert overview
Overview
After its launch in 2021, the Volkswagen Taigun has finally received its first facelift, with which it has received a few updates. The new Taigun features a fresh-looking face, its cabin has been slightly revised, the feature list has seen improvements, and the powertrain has also gotten an update.

The 2026 Volkswagen Taigun has been launched in the Indian market, with prices starting from Rs 11 lakh (ex-showroom). Pre-launch bookings of the facelifted Taigun are underway for a minimum token amount of Rs 11,000. If you have your eyes set on the facelifted Taigun, then check out what the sporty SUV has to offer.
We have also compared the Taigun facelift with the older model in this story.
Exterior
The first thing you notice to be different about the Taigun is its face. The SUV now features a connected LED DRL setup, which merges with the LED headlamps. At the centre of the DRLs is the 2D Volkswagen logo, which is illuminated.

The shape of the headlamps remains similar to the older version; however, both units are now connected with a gloss black strip. The GT lineup also gets its badging on this strip. Below the headlamps is the redesigned bumper, which now looks sharper than before, and here too the carmaker has used some gloss black inserts to add a pinch of premiumness.

In profile, the new Taigun gets dual-tone 17-inch alloy wheels, and you get different designs and colours based on the variant you choose. The rest of the side profile remains the same, with thick cladding under the doors, sharp, straight lines cutting through the panels, and roof rails.

At the back, the tail lamps are now connected, and here too, you get an illuminated Volkswagen logo. Volkswagen has revised the rear bumper design as well, and you still get a roof-mounted spoiler. Check out the new Taigun's design in more detail here in our image gallery.
The facelifted Volkswagen Taigun brings two new hues: Avocado Pearl and Steel Grey. Besides, it is also available with six other shades: Wild Cherry Red, Lava Blue, Candy White, Deep Black, Reflex Silver, Carbon Steel and Carbon Steel Matte. You can take a look at all the colour options and their variant-wise distribution here.
Interior
Interior
Inside, the 2026 Taigun feels noticeably more tech-forward and comfort-focused than before. It now gets a larger 10.25-inch digital driver’s display paired with an upgraded 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, enhanced with AI-based features powered by Google Cloud.

Features
Volkswagen has also amped up the comfort quotient with additions like a panoramic sunroof, rear seat massaging function, and 6-way power-adjustable front seats with ventilation, along with automatic climate control. Practicality and everyday usability remain strong with features such as wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a wireless phone charger, and cruise control rounding off a well-equipped cabin experience. Which variant packs what features in the new Volkswagen Taigun? Find out here.

Safety
In terms of safety, the Taigun gets 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control (ESC), a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), rear parking sensors, auto-dimming IRVM, rear wiper and washer, and ISOFIX child seat anchors. It also gets a rearview camera with dynamic guidelines.
What seems to be missing is a 360-degree camera and Level 2 ADAS feature, which a lot of cars in this segment offer.
Boot Space
The boot space of the Taigun remains the same as the outgoing version in terms of both shape and capacity. You get a 385-litre boot space, which is enough to keep an entire suitcase set (small, medium and large), and you'll still have some space left to keep small office bags.

If you need more space, the rear seats come with a 60:40 split, which you can fold to keep larger items.
Performance
In the powertrain section, the new Taigun carries forward the engine options of the outgoing version with a 1-litre turbo-petrol and a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine. However, like the Kushaq, the Taigun’s 1-litre TSI engine gets an 8-speed torque converter automatic transmission instead of a 6-speed unit, and the 1.5-litre TSI engine continues to be offered with the DCT (or DSG, as Volkswagen likes to call it), not with a manual.
| Engine | 1-litre turbo-petrol TSI | 1.5-litre turbo-petrol TSI |
| Power | 115 PS | 150 PS |
| Torque | 178 Nm | 250 Nm |
| Transmission | 6-speed MT/8-speed AT (NEW) | 7-speed DSG |
MT- Manual Transmission, AT- Automatic Transmission (torque converter)
DSG- Dual Clutch Transmission (automatic)

Check which variant gets what engine and transmission options, here.

Verdict
The facelifted Volkswagen Taigun still keeps its focus on what it always has, performance and sportiness, as these aspects have always set it apart in the segment. However, with this facelift, it has also become somewhat up-to-date with the segment by offering some features which were missing for years.
While it is still primarily performance-focused, it has now also become a little more family-friendly with the new equipment onboard.
