How much is the Thar’s price?

Prices for the Mahindra Thar Roxx are expected to start around Rs 15 lakh and go up to around Rs 19.50 lakh (both prices ex-showroom).

How many variants are there in the Mahindra Thar Roxx?

While the Thar 3-door is available in the AX Option and LX variants, it remains to be seen what variants the Thar Roxx will be available in. It also remains to be seen if the Thar Roxx gets both hard-top and soft-top roof options.

What features does the Thar Roxx get? 

The Mahindra Thar Roxx is expected to offer features like a touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, 4 speakers with 2 tweeters, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), ESP, ISOFIX, six airbags and a height-adjustable driver’s seat. It is also likely to offer a sunroof.

How spacious is it? 

The Mahindra Thar Roxx is a 5-seater off-roader that can seat a family of adults comfortably. Unlike the 3-door Thar, accessing the second-row of seats will be convenient and the Thar Roxx will also offer better boot space.

What engine and transmission options are available? 

The Mahindra Thar Roxx is expected to offer these options to choose from. While 4x4 will be offered with all engine options it remains to be seen if a rear-wheel drive-only model will also be available: 

• 2-2-litre Diesel: This diesel engine is offered with the 3-door Thar 4x4. While it gets a 6-speed manual transmission as standard it is also available with the option of a 6-speed automatic transmission. 

• 2-litre Petrol: The petrol 3-door Thar is available with both 6-speed manual and automatic transmissions and whether you get your Thar petrol with 4x4 or rear-wheel drive only, this same engine is offered with both. It delivers brisk performance and responsiveness while still being smooth to drive but this engine does not score high on fuel-efficiency.

How safe is the Mahindra Thar Roxx?

The Mahindra Thar Roxx is expected to come equipped with safety features like six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, hill-hold control, hill-descent control and rear parking sensors. In Global NCAP’s crash tests, the Thar 3-door received 4/5 stars for both adult and child occupant protection which bodes well for the crash safety of the 5-door Thar Roxx.

Should you buy the 2024 Thar Roxx?

Much like the 3-door Thar, the Mahindra Thar Roxx is a purpose-built off-roader that can be used by the family. It is an SUV designed to prioritize off-roading which means it won’t be as comfortable to live with every day as some compact SUVs viz ride quality and handling. However, if you want a car that makes a statement or can be a great partner in exploration, the Thar Roxx can be a great option for you.

What are my alternatives? 

The Maruti Suzuki Jimny and Force Gurkha are off-road SUVs that you can buy for a similar price as the Mahindra Thar. If you just want the style and higher seating position of an SUV but don’t intend to drive much off-road, the MG Astor, Honda Elevate, Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, VW Taigun and Skoda Kushaq are available in a similar price range.
