Tivoli is the first substantial new product from SsangYong after Mahindra’s acquisition of this Korean utility manufacturer brand!

Mahindra will soon launch this compact SUV in the country and it looks like a true Hyundai Creta rival as it has almost everything what Hyundai offers, plus many more. It will be priced similar to that of Creta. However, Mahindra has the Scorpio in this price band, but it has a different set of customer and Tivoli is not expected to dent its sales. Besides the Creta, Tivoli will also rival the upcoming 7-seater Honda BR-V, facelifted Renault Duster, amongst others.

Engines

On similar lines with Hyundai Creta, Tivoli in Europe comes with 1.6-liter petrol and diesel engines. It is most likely to have the same engine and transmission options in the country. The 1.6-liter - e-XGi160 petrol engine produces 128 PS @ 6,000 rpm of max power with 160Nm @ 4,600 rpm of peak torque. The e-XDi160 diesel engine musters 115 PS @ 3,400-4,000 rpm with an impressive 300 Nm @1,500-2,500 rpm of max torque. Both the motors come with standard 6-speed manual transmission while Aisin’s 6-speed automatic is optional. Moreover, it also offers 4WD globally and is expected to be offered in India as well.

Features and Safety

Tivoli comes with LED projector headlamps with LED daytime running lights. The taillamps also feature LED lighting. Globally, it comes with optional 18-inch alloy wheels, however, Indian model is expected to come with 16-inch alloys as seen on the show car at the Expo. On the inside, it comes with a large 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with built-in navigation and offers a display for the reverse parking camera. In the European model, the backlit of the instrument cluster can be changed depending on the mood. Moreover, there is dual-zone climate control, leather upholstery, push-button start-stop, cruise control, etc. It is expected that Mahindra-SsangYong will offer all these in India.

In terms of safety, it offers 7 airbags internationally. It is expected that Indian version will have at least 6-airbags in the top-end version. Besides this, it also offers ESP, tyre pressure monitoring and ISOFIX.
