Tata Harrier 7-Seater With Automatic Transmission Spied For The First Time

Expect it to finally debut the 6-speed automatic paired with the 2.0-litre diesel engine

It has been spied numerous times from the outside but we have finally got our glimpse of the interior of the Tata Harrier's 7-seater version. While the entire dashboard layout remains the same as the standard Harrier, it reveals an automatic gear lever and this means the Harrier range is ready to get the 6-speed Hyundai-sourced torque converter automatic.

At the center is still the 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto with climate controls below it. The automatic gear lever has a black top flanked with silver inserts whereas the central console around it reveals a piano black finish with the usual automatic modules- P for parking, D for drive and R for reverse.

Powering the Harrier 7-seater will be the BS6 version of the 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine that should deliver around 170PS/350Nm like the MG Hector and Jeep Compass. The current Harrier produces 30PS less. A 6-speed manual is going to be available as standard. The automatic transmission should be rolled out for the Harrier around the same time.

Changes on the outside will obviously be manifested in the dimensions- 4661mm (+63mm) of length, 1786mm (+80mm) while the width remains the same at 1894mm. The wheelbase will remain unchanged at 2741mm. Other upgrades will include a larger window area, roof spoiler, updated tail lamps, reworked tailgate design, probably a bigger panoramic sunroof and 19-inch alloy wheels similar to the one seen on the Tata Buzzard Geneva Edition.

The Harrier 7-seater is expected to be launched at the 2020 Auto Expo and will bear a different name than the Geneva show car which was called the Buzzard. Tata is expected to price it at a premium of around Rs 1 lakh over the current Harrier's corresponding variants which range between Rs 13 lakh and Rs 16.76 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The automatic variants are expected to command a further premium of around Rs 1 lakh over the manual ones.
