It gets a new front end design that looks more premium than the current model

  • The facelifted Yaris has been spied in the Philippines where it'll be revealed on July 25.

  • New front fascia adopts more Lexus-like design language.

  • It has a large air-dam element from the grille to the bottom, flanked by vertical fog lamp housings.

  • Rear end of the Yaris sedan facelift yet to be seen.

  • Will likely get an updated infotainment system.

  • Expected to arrive in India in 2021.

The Toyota Yaris compact sedan is offered in various global markets under different names and also in a hatchback avatar. It is due to get a facelift soon, as previewed by some patent filing documents. And it has now been spied in the Philippines, where it will be officially revealed on July 25.

The facelifted model sports a new front fascia that looks a bit like the Lexus design which does away with the front bumper. Instead it has a larger air-dam design that goes all the way up to the grille, with newly designed front fog lamp housings that are still vertical which makes it look sportier. The new front end also has new headlamps (likely LEDs) with integrated LED daytime running lights.

Based on the patent images and the spy shots, Toyota doesn't seem to have changed the design of the alloy wheels for the Yaris facelift. We're still waiting for our first look of the rear-end of the updated compact sedan as the patent filings were only of the hatchback version.

Toyota is unlikely to make many changes to the cabin which is currently offered in a dual tone black and beige theme. The Yaris' features list currently offers a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with gesture control, cruise control and rain-sensing wipers. However, it does need an update to the infotainment system wherein Apple CarPlay and Android Auto would not be an accessory. It will likely offer connected car technology features too.

The facelifted Yaris is likely to continue with the current car's 1.5-litre petrol engine, which makes 107PS and 140Nm and comes mated to a 6-speed manual with the choice of a CVT automatic.

While the spy shots suggest it will be launched in the Philippines soon, Toyota is expected to introduce it in India in the first half of 2021. Here, it would take on the likes of the Hyundai Verna, fifth-gen Honda City, Volkswagen Vento, Skoda Rapid and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz. The facelift would likely attract a slight premium over the current Yaris prices that range between Rs 8.86 lakh and Rs 14.30 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
