Tata Harrier And Safari To Get Petrol Engine By March 2026
Both SUVs are expected to get the new 1.5-litre T-GDI turbo-petrol engine that was first showcased by the carmaker at the Auto Expo 2023
Tata Motors had showcased a 1.2-litre and a 1.5-litre TGDi turbo-petrol engines at the Auto Expo 2023, which it said will power the newer models of the carmaker. While the 1.2-litre turbocharged unit debuted with the Curvv SUV-coupe, the 1.5-litre turbocharged engine has been rumored to be launched with the Tata Harrier and Safari for a long time. Now, the carmaker has confirmed that both SUVs will get multiple powertrain options by the end of FY26 during its Investor Meet, which leads us to believe that the petrol version will be launched by March 2026.
Meanwhile, here are the specifications of the 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine that was displayed at the Auto Expo 2023:

Notably, while the transmission options are yet to be announced, this engine could be mated with a sophisticated 7-speed DCT (dual-clutch automatic transmission), as was hinted during its showcase at the automotive show. Along with that, we also expect it to be offered with a 6-speed manual transmission.
It must be noted that the petrol engine option is now long awaited with both these SUVs. Rivals of both these cars are offered with petrol engine options and the introduction of this T-GDI turbo-petrol engine could attract more customers for the Harrier and Safari, considering the tightening emission norms.

Currently, the Tata Harrier and Safari are available with a single 2-litre diesel engine, the specifications of which are as follows:
