A dark-themed car can have a very different presence on the road, especially when the colour is paired with similar exterior updates and matching cabin elements. That is the idea behind several special editions currently offered by carmakers in India, with each brand giving its own take on the darker theme.
With Diwali approaching, these editions offer a slightly different way to stand out from the usual festive-season choices. From Kia’s X-Line and Tata’s Dark and Red Dark Editions to Hyundai’s Knight Edition, here are the dark-themed options available for under Rs 20 lakh.
Kia X-Line
Kia offers the X-Line name on select variants of its SUVs, with the focus being on darker exterior detailing and exclusive cabin themes. The Sonet X-Line gets a matte Graphite finish with gloss-black elements, while the Seltos X-Line adds similar blacked-out styling along with an exclusive paint shade and interior treatment.

Inside, the X-Line gets a black and Sage Green dual-tone theme, along with leatherette seats and a steering wheel finished with orange stitching and X-Line badging.

The rest of the cabin layout and equipment are carried over from the GTX Plus variant. Under the hood, it gets the 1-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 120 PS and 172 Nm, paired with a 7-speed DCT automatic gearbox.

Inside, it gets an exclusive black and green dual-tone cabin instead of the black-and-white theme seen in the GTX variants. The dashboard layout and equipment remain largely unchanged, including the panoramic sunroof.
The Seltos X-Line is available with three powertrain combinations: a 115 PS 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, a 160 PS 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine, and a 116 PS 1.5-litre diesel engine. Prices range from Rs 18.72 lakh to Rs 21.57 lakh, depending on the powertrain. Notably, all three engine options are offered with automatic transmission only with the Seltos X-Line.
Tata Dark And Red Dark Editions
Tata’s Dark Edition treatment is built around an all-black look, with darker exterior elements, blacked-out wheels and badges, and matching cabin themes. The newer Red Dark Edition adds contrasting red highlights to this formula, giving the otherwise blacked-out treatment a different visual identity.

Toyota's approach is slightly different. The Hyryder Aero Black Edition is not a separate variant but a styling package that can be added to eligible variants for Rs 31,999. It features blacked-out exterior elements, including the grille garnish, headlamp surrounds and tailgate trim, and is available only with the Midnight Black exterior.

CarDekho Says…
The idea of a dark-themed car is no longer limited to a single black paint option. Several manufacturers now offer dedicated editions with changes to the exterior trim, wheels, badges and cabin themes, while some go further with contrasting red or brass-coloured details.
Kia's X-Line, Tata's Dark and Red Dark Editions, Hyundai's Knight Edition, Toyota's Aero Black package and Honda's Signature Black Edition cover a fairly wide range of cars. Skoda's Monte Carlo editions also add a sportier take on the same black-and-red theme.
For buyers looking specifically for a darker-looking car this festive season, there are therefore multiple options under the Rs 20 lakh ex-showroom mark. However, the exact styling treatment, powertrain choices and pricing vary considerably between editions.
