2017 Maruti Suzuki Swift

When Maruti Suzuki Swift was first introduced, it attracted comparison with the likes of the iconic Mini Cooper. Recently, spy shots of the next-generation Swift were leaked online, featuring drastic aesthetic updates – though one could still easily spot the essence of the Swift being carried forward. Following this, spy shots of a prototype of the next-generation Suzuki Swift hatchback doing a road test on foreign soil have surfaced online.

In terms of aesthetics, the spy shots help one easily spot the wide open chin, the new grille and the floating roof, which aim to give the upcoming Swift a much more sporty appeal. Features that remind us of the classic Swift include a cockpit-like cabin.

One can also spot the refreshed design of the rear door and the hidden handle of the same, which has been tucked away. Accents like the prominent wheel arches might make their way into the Indian model, but the same can't be said about the front black splitter as seen in the pictures.

The slanting roof, the prominent wheel arches and the large wheels lend the next-generation Swift a much more planted and sporty stance. The 2017 Swift incorporates the same platform as the company's premium hatchback, the BalenoThe car will be lighter and stronger than the outgoing model. This will translate into enhanced fuel economy, performance and safety.

It is expected that the next-gen Swift will continue to offer the current line-up of engine options. Maruti might also introduce its 1-litre BoosterJet petrol motor and the all-new 1.5-litre diesel unit into the new Swift at a later stage of the car’s life cycle. These powerplants will be considerably more powerful than the current line-up.

The next-generation Swift is expected to be globally unveiled this year and the India debut will take place sometime in early 2017. It will complete with the likes of the Ford Figo, the upcoming Tata Tiago, the Hyundai Grand i10, etc.
