If you are searching for a 5-seater SUV priced under Rs 15 lakh that’s bigger than the likes of the Hyundai Creta or Maruti Grand Vitara, there are a few options available. Thanks to a recent price reduction, the base-spec petrol variant of the MG Hector has become Rs 96,000 more affordable. Now, the Hector’s base-spec Style variant directly competes with the Mahindra XUV700 MX 5-seater. Let’s now compare these two mid-size SUVs based on their specifications on paper.

The Mahindra XUV700 is 40 mm longer and 55 mm wider than the base-spec Style variant of the MG Hector.
Please note that the length mentioned above for the Hector applies only to its base-spec variant. The length for all other variants of the SUV is 4,699 mm.
The difference in lengths between the base-spec Hector and its other variants is because MG offers the base-spec Style variant of the Hector in its pre-facelifted avatar.
The Hector is 5 mm taller than the XUV700, while the wheelbase for both SUVs is the same.

MG Hector Style Interior

At the similar price point, the base-spec MG Hector misses out on a touchscreen infotainment system and steering-mounted controls, but both get some form of audio entertainment systems.
The base-spec variants of both SUVs also get comfort and convenience features like all four power windows, electrically adjustable ORVMs, height-adjustable driver’s seat and tilt adjustable steering wheel.
The Hector base-spec additionally gets rear defogger and rear wiper and washer, which is not being offered with the XUV700’s MX variant.
Both SUVs get dual front airbags, electronic stability control, and all four disc brakes.

Final Takeaway

While the base-spec variants of both SUVs offer only basic amenities, the XUV700's base-spec trim provides an additional advantage with a touchscreen infotainment system featuring Android Auto. However, the MG SUV also gets a rear wiper and defogger over the Mahindra rival.

Furthermore, the XUV700 boasts a more powerful turbo-petrol engine than the Hector, but you might prefer the Hector for better fuel efficiency.
