The July 2025 sales report for compact and midsize hatchbacks is here, with the Maruti Wagon R claiming the top spot. It is closely followed by Maruti Swift, which has also crossed the sales mark of 10,000 units. That said, the broader picture isn’t as bright, as most hatchbacks have posted year-on-year (YoY) declines. Here’s a closer look at how each model fared in July 2025.

With over 14,700 units sales and dispatches, the Maruti Wagon R was the top-selling hatchback in India in July 2025. Although its yearly sales dipped by 9 percent, its MoM graph has seen a growth of 14 percent compared to June 2025 sales.

The Maruti Swift is the only hatchback after the Wagon R to cross the sales mark of 10,000 units in July 2025. Maruti dispatched over 14,000 units of Swift, registering a growth of 7 percent in monthly sales. However, its YoY sales went down by 16 percent.

Maruti Alto K10 also secured a spot in the top 3 with over 5,900 units dispatched last month. This compact hatchback outsold its direct rival, the Renault Kwid, by a significant margin of more than 5,600 units and recorded a 17 percent MoM growth.

Tata dispatched over 5,500 units of the Tiago in July 2025. It recorded losses of 8 percent and 2 percent in both monthly and yearly sales, respectively. Note that these figures include the sales of both ICE (internal combustion engine) and EV versions of the hatchback.

Hyundai’s mid-size hatchback, the Grand i10 Nios, also registered losses of 16 percent and 28 percent in both MoM and YoY sales. The Korean automaker dispatched over 3,500 units of the Grand i10 Nios in July 2025.

The Maruti Ignis recorded the highest monthly growth of 33 percent in July 2025, with over 1,900 units dispatched. However, its yearly sales dipped by 11 percent last month.

Maruti Celerio managed to cross the sales mark of 1,000 units in July 2025. It faced losses of 32 percent and 44 percent in both MoM and YoY sales, respectively.

Another Maruti offering in the list, the S-Presso, has registered the highest loss of 65 percent in yearly sales, while its monthly sales went down by over 450 units. The automaker dispatched over 900 units of the S-Presso last month.

The Renault Kwid recorded a sales of 265 units in July 2025, which 184 units less than that of June 2025. Its yearly sales also dipped by 53 percent compared to July 2024.

The Citroen C3 took the last spot with just 179 units dispatched last month. While it recorded the highest growth of 99 percent in yearly sales, its monthly sales are low by 69 units.
