Osamu was recently in the country to meet Narendra Modi for the upcoming Gujarat facility and remarked that the management will not accept any indiscipline by workers. Maruti India also sued 5 more workers at Manesar plant alleging them of indiscipline and decided to employ 100 new staff members on Tuesday to replace the existing workforce. Supposedly this triggered the spark among workers. Sonu Gujjar, President of workers body at Maruti's car assembly plant in Manesar justified this strike by saying that just because the workers are demanding their basic rights now; they are being subject to extreme adverse conditions. He strengthened the worker’s stand by saying that it was the workforce’s initiatives, which led the company to reach its historically high production. This is evident from the fact that Maruti, country’s largest car maker produced around 13 lakh cars in FY11, which is 30% more than its maximum capacity of 10 lakh.

It is being figured out that majorly the workers are demanding the management at Manesar plant to cease the 16-day long impasse with workers who have so far denied signing the good conduct bond set as a unavoidable step by management to enter the plant. While two-wheeler facility, Suzuki Motorcycle India rolls out 1,200 motorcycles and scooters every day and employs 1,400 workers at its Gurgaon plant, Suzuki Powertrain India and Suzuki Castings in Manesar are known for diesel engines production. It is now foreseen that production of diesel variants of Maruti Ritz and Maruti Dzire cars made at Gurgaon plants will soon be impacted. Also Suzuki, which holds 54.4% stake in Maruti India, is facing a possible shutdown of its main plant in Gurgaon which employs nearly 4,500 staff and produces popular vehicles such as Maruti Alto, Maruti WagonR and Maruti Eeco.
