The Maruti Ertiga comes at a more affordable price, but it misses out on a lot of amenities that are offered with the new Carens Clavis

Kia Carens Clavis vs Maruti Ertiga: specifications compared

The 2025 Kia Carens Clavis has been launched in India with prices starting from Rs 11.50 lakh (ex-showroom). It locks horns with the Maruti Ertiga, which is one of the best selling models in the segment. If you are torn between choosing the new Clavis that packs in a lot of premium features or going with the trusted Ertiga, here’s a detailed comparison that will help you reach a conclusion.

    Maruti Ertiga

    Prices are ex-showroom, pan-India

The table suggests that the Kia Carens Clavis comes with a very premium price tag compared to the Maruti Eriga. While the base-spec variants of both rivals have a difference of over Rs 2.50 lakh, the top-spec variants differ by over 8 lakh. However, in its top-spec variant, the Clavis gets a lot more features than the Ertiga and gets a more powerful turbo-petrol engine as well.

Both the Kia Carens Clavis and Maruti Ertiga come with a similar capacity naturally aspirated petrol engine. However, the Clavis’ engine produces slightly more power and torque than the Ertiga. On the other hand, the Ertiga is offered with an automatic transmission with the naturally aspirated engine, which is missing on the new Kia MPV.

The 2025 Clavis also comes with a turbo-petrol engine and a diesel engine, both of which are not offered with the Ertiga. The turbo-petrol engine is the most powerful in this comparison, while the diesel engine will give the best of both performance and fuel efficiency. These two engines also offer you both manual and automatic transmission options. Also, the turbo-petrol engine can be had with a 6-speed clutchless manual.

On the other hand, if lower running cost is a concern, the Ertiga also comes with a CNG option that has a claimed fuel efficiency of 26.11 km per kg.

It also gets a better safety suite with 6 airbags (as standard), 360-degree camera, ADAS, dual-camera dashcam, front parking sensors and an electronic parking brake. All of this is missing on the Ertiga. Moreover, the Clavis offers a 6-seater option in the top-spec HTX Plus variant, which is not offered in the Maruti rival.

However, the Ertiga gets front fog lamps and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, both of which are not offered in the top-spec variants of the Carens Clavis. The lower variants of the Clavis with the smaller 8-inch touchscreen infotainment, however, gets wireless phone connectivity.

    Verdict

    Kia Carens Clavis front

Although the Kia Carens Clavis asks a lot more money than the Maruti Ertiga, it comes with much more premium features that are not available even with the fully-loaded ZXi Plus variant of the Ertiga. It also gets a performance-oriented turbo-petrol and an all-rounder diesel engine, which are not offered with the Ertiga. So, if you want a more premium MPV with multiple powertrain options, each catering to varied driving needs, you should go for the Kia Carens Clavis.

    Maruti Ertiga driving

On the other hand, the Maruti Ertiga gets a CNG powertrain which has lower running costs than all the options in the Clavis MPV. It has been the bestselling MPV for the extreme value for money that it provides by offering all the basics. So, if you want an affordable MPV with a decent engine and well sorted fundamentals, you should check out the Ertiga.
