VinFast VF MPV 7

The VinFast VF MPV 7 comes in as the third product for India, from the Vietnamese carmaker, after their two electric SUVs. It has now been launched at Rs 24.49 lakh.

The VF MPV 7 looks like any other MPV (check it out in our detailed image gallery here). The design is simple, clean, and follows a minimalistic approach. The connected LED DRLs at the front form a V shape, mimicking the brand’s logo, creating the signature VinFast family look. It also gets vertically stacked LED headlamps and a large bumper to keep things visually interesting.

The side profile features 19-inch all-black alloy wheels with an aerodynamic design, while the rest of the styling has been kept plain and understated.

At the rear, it gets a similar connected lighting element forming the V shape around the logo, and the tail lamps have a wrap-around design.

The VF MPV 7 is offered in six monotone colours: Infinity Blanc (White), Jet Black, Zenith Grey, Solar Ruby (Red), Moonlit Ocean, and Introspective Brown. Check how every colour looks in the VF MPV 7 here. 

The minimalistic approach continues inside the VF 7 MPV’s cabin, where only the essentials are provided. The dashboard has a clean layout, with the touchscreen being the main focal point. The cabin is offered in two themes: all-black or a dual-tone black and brown option. The seats are finished in leatherette upholstery, and similar padding is provided on the steering wheel and door pads.

However, the quality is not consistent throughout. The AC vents feel light, the steering-mounted buttons feel loose and slightly cheap, and the speaker casings have an uneven finish. On the brighter side, space is more than adequate. The second row offers good headroom for a six-footer, along with ample legroom and kneeroom.

The seats also come with slide and recline functions, allowing flexibility in space management. However, due to the slightly raised floor, underthigh support is slightly compromised. 

Moving to the third row, the space is surprisingly good. Two adults can sit comfortably with decent headroom, and even with the second row pushed back, knee room remains acceptable. Underthigh support is limited, but overall, the space is sufficient for long journeys.

Features

The VF MPV 7 falls slightly short in this department. While it has a 10.1-inch touchscreen that operates smoothly, it supports only wired Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and is paired with a basic 4-speaker sound system. It misses out on features like powered and ventilated front seats, a sunroof, a wireless phone charger, and even a driver’s display.

On the safety front, it comes equipped with 4 airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, rear parking sensors, a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), ISOFIX child seat anchors, and a rearview camera. However, it does not include an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) suite.

Being a three-row MPV, the boot space is limited when all rows are in use. With all three rows up, you get 100 litres of boot space, which can accommodate two cabin-sized suitcases.

However, when the third row is folded, you get a flat floor that offers around 515 litres of boot space. This is enough to store a full suitcase set along with two small bags, with some room still left for shopping items.

We drove the VF MPV 7 on VinFast’s test track in Vietnam, so the driving conditions were not representative of real-world scenarios. Nonetheless, here are our impressions of its performance and ride comfort.

Like most EVs, the VF MPV 7 offers instant torque. It moves gradually from a standstill once you release the brakes, preventing any sudden surge. This, combined with a light steering setup, makes it easy to drive in city conditions despite its large size.

On highways, it delivers effortless performance. With a sub 10-second 0-100 kmph time, it reaches triple-digit speeds quickly and handles overtakes with ease. The ride quality on smooth roads felt acceptable, though there was noticeable side-to-side movement, which could be more pronounced on rough roads.

The VinFast MPV 7 is a purpose built MPV and the purpose is to take people from point A to point B with good space and comfort.

It does a great job in delivering on the space front and for a big family this car makes a lot of sense. However, it lacks cabin premiumness and a lot of features, so to actually complete in the market, VinFast needs to price it very competitively.
