The Maruti Jimny is equipped with 195/80 R15 tyres, wrapped around alloys, on the top variant. Given the tyre's high profile, the SUV's weight, and its intended purpose, Maruti recommends a tyre pressure of 26 PSI for all four tyres when only carrying two occupants, including the driver. If the SUV is fully-loaded with four occupants, the recommended tyre pressure is 26 PSI for the front and 29 PSI for the rear. Those are surprisingly low figures as most cars run a recommended tyre pressure of 30 PSI or higher.

Why The Low Tyre Pressure?

Maruti Jimny

Given the Jimny’s kerb weight of 1,210kg, it’s already a lightweight SUV which can sustain low tyre pressure. Also, the Jimny is an off-roader, the low pressure also helps its tyres maintain a proper contact patch with the road, resulting in improved grip and overall control.

The lower pressure allows the tyres to absorb bumps and shocks more effectively, which in turn positively influences the vehicle's ride quality. Consequently, when visiting a petrol pump to have your SUV's tyre pressure checked, make sure they don’t fill it to a higher value which can result in a stiffer and less comfortable ride experience.
