Volkswagen Polo GT TSI and Vento Highline Plus buyers will now be able to track the whereabouts of their car, set up a geofence, learn more intricately about their driving patterns, and access information along the lines of connected car tech, for free. The German carmaker is offering the Volkswagen Connect system as a standard fitment on these range-topping variants of the Polo and the Vento.
The device latches on to the OBD port of your car and can be accessed using an application on your smartphone. A one-time OTP verification is required which happens via your registered mobile number. The subscription and warranty of the device are valid for a period of three years.
If you use the Volkswagen Connect device, you will be able to track the real time location of the car from your smartphone. You can even set up a route deviation alert which will tell you when the car is being driven off the predetermined route. A geo-fencing feature allows the car to be run inside a particular geographical area. It also comes with an inbuilt SOS call function. The app will even notify you when your car is being towed.
You’ll also be able to view parameters such as speed, acceleration, RPMs and coolant temperature via the application. Customer care executives and roadside assistance can also be contacted through the system. And to make it a more holistic package, your car’s documents can be stored on the application in a digital format, and it will even remind you when your insurance is about to expire.
The OBD device in your car will work on a SIM card to connect with your smartphone app. While it still offers decent functionality, the Volkswagen Connect System in the Polo GT and Vento still do not come with advanced connected car features such as remote locking/unlocking the car and remote pre-cooling the cabin, which are available in cars like the upcoming-Hyundai i20 and Verna.
The Volkswagen Connect System, as mentioned earlier, is only standard with the Polo GT and Vento Highline Plus. You will have to shell out extra money when equipping it on the lower variants of both cars.
