The most luxurious variant of the MPV features a new 21.5-inch roof-mounted smart monitor for the rear occupants

  • Fourth-gen Kia Carnival made its global debut in August 2020.

  • Its top-spec Hi-Limousine version has now been revealed in the carmaker’s home country.

  • Visibly distinguished from the regular MPV by the high roofline that looks a lot like a roof-box.

  • It has been introduced in 7- and 9-seater configurations with the 294PS petrol engine only.

  • Kia will offer the diesel engine on those versions later on as well as a 4-seater version.

  • Kia offers the previous-gen Carnival in India but we still don’t get the Hi-Limousine variant.

The third-gen Kia Carnival joined the Indian market earlier in the year after which the carmaker globally unveiled the fourth-gen model in August. Now, Kia has revealed the most luxurious version of the new Carnival MPV, the Hi-Limousine.

The Hi-Limousine variant of the Kia Carnival can be easily identified by the extra bit on its top. It looks like a roof-box attached on top but it is actually integrated into the roofline to offer an extra 291mm of headroom inside as compared to the normal Carnival MPV. Thanks to this design, it also features a roof-mounted 21.5-inch rear entertainment screen with HDMI and USB ports as well as smart device mirroring. This taller roof also features an LED lamp with ambient lighting.

Other premium features of the top-spec Carnival MPV include a built-in air purifier which is attached to the passenger seatback, heated and cooled cup holders, and privacy curtains for the rear occupants. It has VIP lounge seats in the middle row which get built-in foot rests while still having a third row of seats. The fourth-gen Carnival also gets a panoramic display dashboard with two 12.3-inch screens, connected car technology, multi-zone climate control, and a 360-degree surround-view monitor.

Kia will be offering the Carnival Hi-Limousine in Korea in 7-seater and 9-seater layouts at first with an even more luxurious 4-seater version slated to launch later. This variant will get the choice of an all-black or beige interior. It will only be available with the 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine at first which makes 294PS and 355Nm, mated to an 8-speed shift-by-wire automatic transmission. Kia will introduce the diesel engine option to the Carnival Hi-Limousine at a later date.

The previous-generation Carnival Hi-Limousine variant was showcased in India at Auto Expo 2020, but it’s not yet been introduced, possibly due to the pandemic. Presently, the Kia Carnival is available in three trims priced between Rs 24.95 lakh and Rs 33.95 lakh (ex-showroom). It has no direct rivals in the premium MPV space above the likes of the Toyota Innova but is a lot more affordable than a luxury MPV such as the Mercedes-Benz V-Class. The fourth-gen model of the MPV is expected to arrive by 2022.
