New-gen Maruti Celerio’s Interior Spied For The First Time
The test mule spied appears to be a base-spec LXi variant as it misses out on wheel caps, rear wiper and steering-mounted audio controls
The second-gen Celerio is likely to be based on the same Heartect platform as the Wagon R.
Its cabin is seen featuring two cup holders and centrally-mounted front power window controls.
A 7-inch touchscreen system is also expected to be on offer in the top variant.
Maruti is expected to offer the new Celerio with the same 1.0-litre petrol as before.
The new Celerio could also get the 1.2-litre engine offered with Wagon R and Swift.
It is expected to go on sale by the end of 2020.
As confirmed by recent spy shots, the Maruti Celerio is about to get a generational upgrade soon. We have now got our hands on some more spy shots of the exterior and a first peek at the interior of the second-gen Celerio.
Since the new Celerio is likely to be based on the same Heartect platform as the Wagon R, it appears to have grown dimension-wise, including a longer wheelbase, resulting in a spacious cabin. The spied model seems to be a base-spec LXi variant given the absence of wheel caps, rear wiper, and steering-mounted audio controls. Inside, most of the dashboard is covered up but you can spot two cup holders, non-adjustable rear headrests, a 12V charging socket, and centrally-mounted front power window switches. The instrument cluster draws similarities with the current model. We also expect the new Celerio to be offered with Maruti’s latest 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay as offered from the Alto onwards, with central AC vents now flanking the centre.
The second-gen Celerio is expected to be powered by the same powertrains as the current-gen model: a 1.0-litre petrol engine (68PS/90Nm) with either a 5-speed MT or 5-speed AMT. Maruti is expected to continue offering this engine with a CNG kit in the new Celerio. It could also be offered with a 1.2-litre petrol engine (83PS/113Nm) that gets the same gearbox options as the smaller engine.
The new Celerio is sure to draw a premium over the current version that’s priced from Rs 4.41 lakh to Rs 5.68 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). It will sit above the S-Presso and below the Wagon R in Maruti’s lineup and continue to fight it out with the Tata Tiago, Datsun GO, Hyundai Santro, and Maruti Ignis. It is expected to be launched by the end of the year. Maruti is also expected to introduce a Celerio X version of the new-gen Celerio hatchback.
