    Maruti Suzuki leads the best-sellers list

    Yet again! Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (MSIL) continued its dominance on the Indian roads, with four out of five best-selling cars coming from its stable. As per the latest data released by Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), Maruti's Alto led the sales chart, followed by Dzire, Swift and WagonR on the second, third and fourth positions respectively. While, the fifth and sixth position was taken by Hyundai Grand i10 and Honda City sedan respectively.

    Maruti Suzuki India's sold 64,573 units of Alto in the April-June quarter this fiscal, as compared to 56,335 units sold in the corresponding period last year. While 50,951 Dzires were sold during the quarter, as against 49,259 units of the preview fiscal. Swift hatchback continues to hold on to the third position with 47,442 units delivered during the tenure, as compared to 48,120 units in the same time last year. Wagon R retains its fourth position on the podium with 38,156 units sold, whereas 35,141 units were sold in same period of 2013-14.

    The only non-Maruti in the top-five list, Grand i10, stood at fifth position, with 26,830 units sold during the quarter. The latest entrant Honda City, with 21,985 units during the tenure became the sixth largest selling model in India. The seventh position was taken by Hyundai's Xcent, with 21,524 units sold during the first quarter. Hyundai's entry-level offering Eon with a total sales of 19,379 units, stood at the eighth position. Launched early this year, Maruti Suzuki Celerio, sales number landed at 16,541 units, making its the ninth best-selling model of the country. With 15,182 units sold during the tenure, as against 15,853 units in the corresponding period last year.

    Models like Hyundai's Santro, Verna and Ritz hatchback from Maruti, lost their grounds during the time and failed to make it to the top ten selling models this year.
