Maruti rolls out 670 units of new Swift
The labour unrest at the Maruti India’s Manesar plant has affected the production of its models including the best-selling hatchback Maruti Swift. Though the dispute is continuing, the company has been successful in increasing the production of the hatchback. The Maruti Swift models are manufactured at the Manesar plant in Haryana as well as the Gurgaon plant. On Friday, the production of Maruti Swift had reached 670 units, out of which 400 units were accounted from Manesar plant. Since the beginning of the dispute, the production at the company has increased from 200 units to 400 units at the Manesar plant.

Maruti India had been facing the workers’ strike at the plant for the second time since June this year. The recent agitation at the plant was triggered on August 29th after the company had asked the workers to sign a good conduct bond. The decision came after the workers’ involvement in sabotaging the production at the company apart from the quality issues. Out of the total 2500 employees at the factory, 950 are permanent employees and only 116 of the workers are reported to have signed the ‘good conduct bond’.

While the workers from the factory had protested against the management by the seeking the help from the district authorities earlier, the company continued to remain uncompromised. The labour struggle had reached to an extent, where three of the union representatives were held by the police authorities for injuring the supervisors from the management. According to the latest reports, the company executives held a meeting with the Administration officials from the plant. Maruti Suzuki Udyog Kamgar Union is acting as an intermediary between the factory workers and the MSI management in a bid to resolve the issue.
