Modified On Jul 09, 2014 03:28 PM By Vidyadhar for Datsun GO

Now, when the low-cost Datsun Go is available to be owned, the idea of buying an Alto K10, or Hyundai Eon goes for a dilemma. Isn’t it? Ok, let us help you come to a conclusion around which to go for. Here is a quick comparo of 3 of the hatches, and having had a look the offerings of all, you might make you mind to go for a particular one.

Which one is more feature-rich?
That’s an important distinction for those who are looking for a feature-rich car. In the features’ race, it’s Datsun, who has played smart. The top end variant, Datsun Go T, offers interesting aspects including a speed sensitive electric power steering, and wipers, front power windows, a universal mobile docking station with charger, AUX-in socket, USB port as well as an amplifier. Apart from that, the car also sports adjustable ‘follow-me-home’ headlamps. The 265-litre boot of the Go hatch is another big-time plus for Go, as compared to the rivals. Secondly, all this comes for Rs.3.69 for the ‘T’ variant (Ex-showroom, Delhi), not a bad deal at all! On the other hand, the first rival, Alto K10, if compared on the basis of features, lacks most of the premium features, while the 117-Litre boot of the car is even less than half of that of the Go. The second competition, Hyundai Eon, again doesn’t compete Datsun Go if compared based on the features offered.

Which of these is more powerful?
Among the three, Eon produces the lowest power output totaling to 55.2bhp and 74.5Nm of torque, however, gives a better mileage, courtesy its light 814cc, 0.8L, SOHC gasoline engine.

Hyundai Eon

The Datsun Go, in fact, houses the most powerful engine among the three. Its 1198cc, 1.2L, 3-cylinder, DOHC engine gives a power output of  67.07bhp, offering a better mileage than Alto K10’s 1.0L, K-Series, 998cc engine that produces 67.1bhp of power and 90Nm of torque.

Have a look at the image below to make a clear distinction. The only similarity among the 3 is the 5-speed manual transmission and the number of cylinders that their respective engines equip.

Space and overall dimensions
Well, in terms of space and size, the Go is the largest of the lot, and offers the biggest amount of space within, courtesy Datsun Go’s 2450mm wheelbase, which is around 70mm more than its close rival, Hyundai Eon. However, we are bit doubtful of the seating comfort of the rear row passengers, since the boot of the Go has consumed much of the space totaling to 265-liters, significantly more than that of Eon. On the contrary, Alto K10 loses badly on boot space as well as ground clearance, measuring 160mm, around 10mm lower in comparison to competition.

Which costs the least?
In this section, Hyundai Eon wins the toss quite easily, since its low-end variant costs Rs.24000 less than that of the Go. Next, the entry level, Datsun Go D, costs you much lower than that of the Alto K10, however, the premium variant of Go proves far more expensive, costing around Rs. 25000 more than the Alto K10. In the Go, you get 4 different model options to pick from, whereas, you get just 2 variants in Alto K10’s existing model line-up.

What we opine?
See, it depends mostly on what is your focal point to pay more attention to. In case, low maintenance cost and brand value are your points of concern, we would suggest Maruti Suzuki Alto K10. However, if you are looking to own a hatch with a secondary fuel option(factory fitted LPG kit), Hyundai Eon gets a veto, and proves pocket-friendly too. If it’s power, features and space to be your priority, we would recommend Datsun Go, which can even accommodate your weekly getaway luggage.
