    Design

    • Unlike the more traditional proportions of the Creta, the Bayon takes on a more unconventional approach with a quirky crossover-like design.

    • Its fascia adopts a slim and minimal design, with inverted ‘L-shaped’ LED DRLs with a gloss black strip in between, LED headlamps on the bumper and a silver skid plate for some aggression.

    • In profile, the quirky 17-inch alloy wheels stand out as a signature design element.

    • The Bayon also gets thick cladding, tall roof rails and muscular haunches for added road presence.

    Colour Options

Hyundai is offering the Bayon in six monotone colour options:

    • Atlas White

    • Titanium Black

    • Fiery Red

    • Classy Blue

    • Golden Bronze

    • Ecotonic Grey

Out of these, the Fiery Red and Atlas White shades also get optional dual-tone treatment with a black roof, while the Classy Blue and Ecotonic Grey hues can be had in a matte finish as well for a unique look.

    Our Pick:

Youthful, unique and bold, we feel the Fiery Red shade suits the Bayon’s quirky personality the best.

    Interior

    • Inside, the Bayon takes inspiration from the global-spec i20 for its overall layout.

    • The dashboard has a massive dual-screen setup for the touchscreen and digital driver’s display. It also features the new ‘morse-code’ logo on the steering wheel like other recent Hyundai models.

    Hyundai Bayon

    • Top variants come finished with a dual-tone white and black cabin theme that adds an airy and bright feel to the interior.

    • The centre AC vents are positioned low down, in a vertical arrangement with climate controls sandwiched in between for a unique feel.

    Hyundai Bayon

    • Rear occupants also get a spacious experience and niceties such as rear AC vents, USB Type-C charging ports and a centre armrest with cupholders.

    For A Sportier Feel…

..opt for the dual-tone variants, which also add an all-black interior theme, with contrast red stitching. It will also be easier to maintain than the lighter colours in the monotone versions.

    Boot Space

According to Hyundai, the Bayon offers 505 litres of boot space with the second row up. It also has 60:40 split-folding functionality to expand the cargo space further.

Hyundai has also confirmed that it will launch a factory-fitted CNG kit for the Bayon in January 2027.

    CarDekho Says…

Hyundai, in recent years, has had a great amount of dependence on the Creta for its volumes, with the rest of its lineup ageing. To curb this, the carmaker had previously announced plans for a slew of new products, and the Bayon is the first one of these. The carmaker is playing it safe by aiming to capture the current Creta’s share, as its next generation, bound for India early next year, is set to get larger and more expensive. It will certainly be interesting to see how Bayon's story plays out, especially with its crossover-ish stance and a single engine on offer. Its attractive pricing may just outweigh its quirks for a lot of buyers, though.

If you’re shopping for a compact SUV, here are a few more options, besides the Bayon, that you can consider:

    • Hyundai Creta: The tried-and-tested Creta is set to receive a new generation early next year, but it remains the segment’s most popular choice with a wide range of powertrains, sorted ride quality and a plethora of equipment on offer.

    • Kia Seltos: Another favourite of compact SUV buyers, the Seltos has something for everyone and little in the name of cons.

    • Tata Sierra: The Sierra offers a retro-themed design, a spacious interior and multiple engine options along with an excellent feature list.

    • Maruti Grand Vitara/Toyota Hyryder: Essentially the same cars inside with different styling; both the Grand Vitara and Hyryder are absolute no-nonsense options. They also offer CNG, strong-hybrid and AWD powertrains for a varied appeal.

    • Maruti Victoris: Carrying the same mechanicals as the Grand Vitara, Maruti’s second offering in this segment gets a more spacious interior, 5-star BNCAP safety and a sleeker design.

    • Renault Duster/Nissan Tekton: The Renault-Nissan offerings appeal strongly to enthusiasts with segment-best power figures, a useful feature list, muscular proportions and even a strong-hybrid powertrain.

    • Honda Elevate: Recently updated, the Elevate is known for its robust ride quality, smooth petrol engine and a spacious cabin; the recent facelift also gives it more features.

    • Volkswagen Taigun: A driver’s delight, the Taigun impresses with its powerful engines, slick DSG gearbox and a typical sophisticated feel you associate with Volkswagen.

    • Skoda Kushaq: The Taigun’s cousin, but leans towards a more elegant and classy design language; also offers first-in-segment rear massaging seats.

    • Tata Curvv: With its unique coupe-SUV styling, the Curvv stands out on roads while offering a large boot and a long list of features.

    • MG Astor: Dated option, but still relevant with its premium interior and excellent value-for-money proposition.
