With Diwali 2026 approaching, many will be looking to upgrade to a new car. And in today’s world, fuel efficiency is likely to remain an important consideration amid rising running costs. With diesel engines taking a step back, strong hybrid technology offers a balance between efficiency and performance, making it an appealing option for people looking for a strong middle ground without switching to a fully electric car.

From compact SUVs to luxury sedans. There are now several strong hybrid options available in India. If you're considering one this festive season, here are the 10 most affordable strong hybrid cars you can buy this Diwali, arranged from the lowest to the highest starting price. The Victoris is one of the well-engineered and feature-loaded compact SUVs you can buy. It also packs the convenience of a hybrid powertrain, which makes the Victoris a complete and more appealing package. All of this has long helped the Victoris to remain a top-selling product for Maruti.

Powering the Maruti Victoris is a 1.5-litre petrol engine, which is paired with an electric motor. The setup generates 114 PS and 141 Nm and is mated to an e-CVT automatic transmission, with a claimed mileage of up to 28.65 kmpl.

The Grand Vitara is another hybrid offering by Maruti in the same price range, making the mid-size SUV segment a tough space for rivals. While the Victoris is available from the larger Maruti Area showrooms, the Grand Vitara is available from the Nexa showrooms. Along with a long list of essential and premium features, both cars are backed by Maruti’s strong after-sales support and a reliable and easy-to-maintain image.

The powertrain on the Maruti Grand Vitara is shared with the Victoris, making use of the same 1.5-litre petrol engine with a strong hybrid motor. This setup produces a combined output of 115 PS and 141 Nm and is mated to an e-CVT automatic transmission, with a claimed mileage of up to 27.97 kmpl.

Next in line is the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder. This car is not very different from the Grand Vitara, as both cars are closely related, sharing the same powertrain, similar interior and chassis. Toyota has made some efforts to make it look a little different from the Grand Vitara, and that does help its cause. The Urban Cruiser Hyryder does not disappoint in terms of features; it gets everything that you’d expect in a mid-size SUV at this range. Prices for the Urban Cruiser Hyryder start at Rs 17.18 lakh (ex-showroom), which is nearly Rs 50,000 more than the car it is based on.

In terms of powertrain, the engine on the Urban Cruiser Hyryder remains the same as the Maruti Victoris and the Grand Vitara. Doing the duty here is also the 1.5-litre petrol engine with a strong hybrid setup, which pushes out a combined power of 115 PS and 141 Nm, and is mated to an e-CVT automatic transmission. The claimed mileage stands at 27.97 kmpl.

Honda City

The Honda City Hybrid uses a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with a hybrid battery, which gives a combined power output of over 125 PS, along with a torque output of 131 Nm from the engine and 253 Nm from the electric motor. The engine is mated to an e-CVT automatic gearbox with a claimed fuel efficiency of up to 27.26 kmpl.
