Toyota To Launch The Glanza CNG This November, Offline Bookings Underway

• Glanza will be following its body-donor, the Maruti Baleno, and soon get the choice of CNG-compliant variant.

• It will use the same 1.2-litre petrol engine making less power on CNG, with a 5-speed manual only.

• Leaked RTO document revealed it will offer CNG with S, G and V variants.

• Expected to cost a premium of Rs 1 lakh over corresponding petrol-manual variants.

The long-awaited CNG option for the Toyota Glanza is confirmed to arrive in November. It offers the benefit of a cleaner, more economical powertrain for the S, G and V variants of the premium hatchback.

Previously leaked RTO documents revealed some of the specifications for the Glanza CNG. It will continue to feature the 1.2-litre petrol engine which has an output of 77PS on the cleaner fuel, 13PS down from its petrol-fueled performance. Like all other CNG models in the market, it will only be available with the five-speed manual transmission.

There will not be any feature differences for the CNG variants. Its frugal benefits come at the usual expense of its boot space which will now be occupied by the CNG-cylinder. Since it will be offered from the mid-spec variant onwards, buyers can enjoy the premium experience with the CNG powertrain.

A CNG variant usually attracts a premium of around Rs 1 lakh over its corresponding petrol-manual variant. As a result, we expect the Glanza CNG to be priced from Rs 8.5 lakh to Rs 10.5 lakh (ex-showroom) with unofficial bookings already underway at select dealerships.

Its only direct rival will be its sibling, the recently launched Maruti Baleno CNG with the same powertrain and features. Else, the Glanza also competes with the likes of the Hyundai i20, Honda Jazz, and Tata Altroz.
