Toyota Innova or the Innova Crysta is amongst one of the most anticipated unveils of the 2016 Indian Auto Expo. The next generation of the most popular MPV is all set to be launched in the country in a matter of five or six months. This latest iteration of Innova seems to have set a new benchmark of luxury, space and performance in the Indian MPV segment. The latest design scheme for Innova will wash-out the delusion of it being a boring car with its styling bits that are not shy to stand out of the stereotypical MPV crowd.
Toyota has launched its much-talked--about MPV, the Innova Crysta, at a price of Rs.13.8 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai). We were expecting the car to be priced around the Rs. 14 lakh mark. Given the extra space and luxurious features the New Innova Crysta now comes packed with, it has practically entered a space that has no competition. The nearest rival to the Toyota offering might be Tata’s to-be-introduced car, the Hexa.
The Crysta has got two diesel engine options, namely 2.4-litre and 2.8-litre. While the smaller has power figures of 150 PS/ 343 Nm, the larger one is capable of churning out 174 PS and 360 Nm. These enhanced numbers are enough to take care of the extra weight Toyota has added to the next generation of the Innova. With the Land Cruiser, Prado and FJ-Cruiser dominating the roads the way they do, we know that Toyota is a master at the ‘massive car’ business. The Japanese carmaker has used its expertise in this field to make sure the new Innova becomes more luxurious and comfortable while ramping up its dimensions even further. The interiors of the Crysta are also in line with the latest Toyota design language -- the one on which the current Corolla Altis is based upon. When it comes to safety, the top-end variant of the Crysta is expected to be equipped with seven airbags, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD).
