The standard Fortuner nameplate debuted in 2009 while the more premium Fortuner Legender continued with the legacy starting from 2021
Toyota has recorded a sales milestone of 3 lakh units for its popular SUV, the Toyota Fortuner. This milestone has been achieved collectively for the nameplate since the Fortuner’s debut in 2009 and the Fortuner Legender, introduced in 2021, built on its success. The Fortuner’s popularity remains unmatched on our shores when compared to its segment competitors. That being said, we take a look at what makes the Fortuner a people’s favourite.
What Makes The Fortuner A Mass-Favourite?
The Toyota Fortuner continues to be a popular choice in India, even as a premium SUV, now reflected by its sales milestone. What truly connects with buyers is the machoism through a bold and rugged design that gives it a commanding road presence. Also, the bulletproof reliability and relatively low maintenance costs add to its strengths.
The Fortuner is now in its second generation. It is nearly 5 metres long sitting on 18-inch alloy wheels. Combine that with its high ground clearance, a tough ladder-frame chassis, and capable 4x4 offroad equipment, the Fortuner is ready for both city drives and off-road adventures.
A more premium version of the Toyota Fortuner, the Fortuner Legender, was introduced in 2021. It packs in a premium exterior design with a Lexus-like fascia and dual-tone alloy wheels. The cabin also gets a premium maroon and black colour scheme, giving it a sporty vibe.
Inside, the Fortuner is well-loaded with features like leather upholstery, ventilated and powered front seats, dual-zone climate control with rear AC vents, ambient lighting, cruise control, an 8-inch touchscreen system, an auto-dimming inside rearview mirror (IRVM) and an 11-speaker JBL sound system. It also gets a wireless phone charger, a gesture-controlled powered tailgate, and a multi-information display (MID) in the instrument cluster.
For safety, it offers 7 airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), hill start assist, front and rear parking sensors, and a rear parking camera.
