While it gets a lot of modern-day features, the engine refinement and cabin insulation could’ve been better

The 2025 Tata Altroz facelift was launched recently with prices ranging between Rs 6.89 lakh and Rs 11.50 lakh (introductory ex-showroom, pan-India). It gets an evolved design outside and a lot of features inside including a single-pane sunroof and dual 10.25-inch displays. We recently got our hands on the updated premium hatchback and here are 5 things that we noticed during our time with the new Tata Altroz:

    Looks Premium And Sharp

Since its inception in January 2020, the Tata Altroz has been a good-looking car and has aged gracefully. With the facelift, the carmaker has taken an evolutionary approach to the design and has offered a lot of premium elements to make it look more modern.

The 2025 Altroz gets dual-pod LED headlights complemented by eyebrow-shaped LED DRLs and pixel-like LED fog lamps that look premium. For added contrast, it gets a black grille with sleek horizontal slits and the bumper also features a black portion that spans from one fog lamp to another.

In profile, it gets segment-first flush-fitting handles for the front doors that gives the silhouette a minimalist look. The rear door handles are integrated on the C pillars, like the pre-facelift model, which looks neat. It also gets 16-inch dual-tone alloy wheels that look more modern than before.

Another addition to the facelifted Altroz are the new LED tail lights that are joined by a horizontal light bar that looks wow, especially at night. The rear bumper features a rugged black cladding that makes it look bold and aggressive.

What’s likeable about the new design is that Tata Motors has evolved the design of the pre-facelifted Altroz and has not tried to make the facelifted premium hatchback look like an SUV, as is commonly seen with some cars of the other carmakers.

    Almost Perfect Cabin Experience

The interior design of the facelifted hatchback has been completely redesigned. The 2025 Tata Altroz now comes with a dual-tone black and beige interior theme that makes the cabin look more premium and airy.

The dashboard gets a layered design with the middle portion featuring a pattered black trim that feels good to touch. The new Altroz features a 2-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated Tata logo and a dual-tone leatherette cover that feels very upmarket and modern.

All of this would have been perfect, if Tata Motors had not used a fabric material on the door pads that is so thin that you can feel the hard plastics underneath it. The switch to operate the sunroof and cabin lights also feel flimsy and are not up to the quality standards of the other materials in the hatchback.

Loaded With Features To The Brim

The new Tata Altroz gets a lot of features inside. It gets a 10.25-inch touchscreen that is bright and has a good clarity. In our time with the Altroz, the touchscreen did not show any noticeable lags or glitches.

The facelifted premium hatchback also gets a similar-sized drive’s display, which is biggest in the segment and showcases all the information precisely. It can also be configured to show maps which are very convenient. One issue, however, is that in the lower variants, the blind-spot monitor feed is showcased fully on the touchscreen, which can be frustrating while navigating tiny lanes. But this is not a case with the fully loaded Empowered Plus S trim, which shows the feed on the driver’s display.

Other than this, the new Altroz also gets an 8-speaker sound system, a single-pane sunroof, a wireless phone charger, auto AC with rear vents and cruise control. Its safety suite includes 6 airbags (as standard), 360-degree camera, rear parking sensors, rear wiper and washer and a day/night inside rearview mirror (IRVM).

While all of this makes the new Tata Altroz a fairly modern offering, the carmaker could have had an added edge by offering amenities like ventilated front seats, an auto-dimming IRVM and leatherette seat upholstery.

    Lots Of Powertrain Options But…

The Tata Altroz features three engine options, which is the most in the segment. Here are the details:

    Engine

    1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine

    1.2-litre petrol+CNG

    1.5-litre diesel engine

    Power

    88 PS

    73.5 PS

    90 PS

    Torque

    115 Nm

    103 Nm

    200 Nm

    Transmission

    5-speed MT / 5-speed AMT^ / 6-speed DCT*

    5-speed MT

    5-speed MT

    ^AMT = Automated manual transmission

    *DCT = Dual-clutch automatic transmission

The Tata Altroz is the only premium hatchback in the segment to get a diesel engine, which provides a good balance between performance and fuel efficiency. However, the engine gets loud under load, which is also the case with the NA petrol engine. This hampers the premium experience that the Tata Altroz promises.

That said, the diesel engine offers good performance for both urban and highway duties. While the naturally aspirated petrol engine delivers enough power for city runs, it feels underpowered on open roads. You might need to downshift a gear to execute overtakes, climb some inclines or a flyover. The lack of power, however, is felt even more in the CNG option where overtakes need to be planned precisely and patiently.

Another point to note is that the diesel option is not available with an automatic option in any of the hatchback’s variants. The top-spec Empowered Plus S trim is offered only with the naturally aspirated petrol engine, paired with the DCT. All of this does not offer much flexibility to the buyers as those wanting a specific engine or gearbox will have to content themselves with a lower variant.

    Superb Ride Quality

The Tata Altroz has always been known to provide a superior ride quality in comparison to its rivals. The facelifted model also fares well in this regard. At slow speeds, it handles small potholes and speedbreakers well and body movement is well controlled. If driven carefully, larger potholes also do not make the passengers feel uncomfortable in any manner.

On the highways, the Altroz’ reassured straightline stability makes it a car where you can be confident behind the wheel. When you’re in the mood for some fun, the hatchback feels surefooted while attacking twisties and corners.  The weighted steering wheel provides good feel and feedback as well.

However, some suspension and tyre noise filters into the cabin due to lack of insulation over really sharp bumps.

Prices of the 2025 Tata Altroz facelift range between Rs 6.89 lakh and Rs 11.50 lakh (introductory ex-showroom, pan-India) and it rivals the Maruti Baleno, Hyundai i20 and Toyota Glanza.
