The past week had interesting happenings in the Indian automotive scene. We’ve finally witnessed Tesla’s arrival in India with the Model Y as its debut offering. Besides, there were multiple interesting launches like the 2025 Kia Carens Clavis EV and BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe. Key official updates for Maruti, VinFast, Tata, Hyundai, as well as premium automakers like Land Rover and Jeep also grabbed the spotlight. Here’s all that cultivated:

Tesla Model Y Launched In India

Tesla has finally made its India debut and as their first offering, the Model Y has been launched at Rs 59.89 lakh (ex-showroom). It is available in two variants and offers a claimed range of up to 622 km. Bookings are now open. The Model Y also comes with optional extras like self-driving capability and exterior and interior colour choices, which command a massive premium.

Kia Carens Clavis EV Launched

Kia launched the 2025 Carens Clavis EV, with prices starting from Rs 17.99 lakh (ex-showroom). It is offered in five variants and has similar battery packs to the Hyundai Creta Electric, which delivers a claimed range of up to 490 km. The Clavis EV sports a similar design as its ICE counterpart except for a few tweaks. Bookings for the MPV will commence from July 22.

New-gen BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe Launched In India

The second-generation BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe was launched in India at Rs 46.90 lakh (ex-showroom). It is available in two variants: M Sport and M Sport Pro. The new 2 Series gets a downsized 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine alongside plenty of styling updates and added features.

VinFast VF6 And VF7 Bookings Open

VinFast started taking official bookings for its VF 6 and VF 7 electric SUVs in India. VinFast will also establish a retail and service network across the country, with the initial set of dealerships to be set up in major cities. Both the EVs are expected to be launched in the upcoming festive season.

Hyundai Aura Gets AMT In Lower Variant

Hyundai has introduced the Aura’s AMT (automated manual transmission) option in lower-spec S variants. Earlier, this transmission choice was only available on the SX variant. With this update, the AMT option has become more affordable by Rs 87,000.

Maruti e Vitara WLTP-Claimed Range Out

The Maruti e Vitara’s detailed specifications have been revealed in the United Kingdom, which also includes its charging times as well as the WLTP-claimed range. The e Vitara is said to be launched in India by September 2025. It comes with two battery packs and with the bigger one, it is claimed to have a range of up to 426 km.

Jeep Meridian And Jeep Compass Trail Edition Launched

Jeep has introduced a new Trail Edition for the Compass and Meridian SUVs in India. This special edition is based on their mid-spec variants and comes with cosmetic enhancements only. The Trail Edition commands a premium of up to Rs 58,000 for the Compass and up to Rs 48,000 for the Meridian, over the standard versions.

Maruti Baleno And Maruti Ertiga Gets Six Airbags As Standard

The Maruti Baleno and Ertiga has been updated with six airbags as standard across all variants. Due to this update, prices have increased by 0.5 percent for the Baleno and 1.4 percent for the Ertiga. The Baleno with 6 airbags has recently scored a 4-star safety rating in Bharat NCAP testing.

Range Rover Velar Autobiography Edition Launched

Land Rover has introduced a new top-spec Autobiography variant of the Range Rover Velar in India, priced at Rs 89.90 lakh (ex-showroom). It is Rs 5 lakh more expensive than the existing entry-level variant and is offered with both petrol and diesel engine options. Besides, it gets some premium features and styling enhancements over the existing variant.

Tata Punch Hits Production Milestone

Tata Motors has announced that the Punch micro-SUV has crossed the 6 lakh production milestone in under four years. This includes both the Punch ICE and Punch EV. Punch has been Tata’s best-selling nameplate for quite some time, ever since its launch back in 2021.
