The most affordable sedan from the Bavarians gets a generational update as the new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe has been launched in India at Rs 46.90 lakh (ex-showroom). It is offered in two variants: M Sport and M Sport Pro. Notably, the new 2 Series gets a sole downsized 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine, unlike the more powerful 2-litre turbo petrol and diesel engines offered in the outgoing model. Let’s take a look at what this entry-level BMW brings to the table:
Price
| Variant |
Price (ex-showroom) |
| 218 M Sport |
Rs 46.90 lakh |
| 218 M Sport Pro |
Rs 48.90 lakh |
The BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe is available in two variants and the higher-spec Pro variant is Rs 2 lakh more expensive than the standard one.
Design

The front of the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe looks aggressive with a wide illuminated kidney grille finished in black, which is flanked by sleek LED headlights with LED DRLs. The bumper has large air intakes on both sides.

On the side, the sedan gets a sloping roofline that flows smoothly into the boot. It sits on 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels and gets frameless doors for a more premium and coupe-like appeal. It gets four colour options: Alpine White, Black Sapphire, Brooklyn Grey and Portimao Blue.
At the rear, it features sleek wraparound LED taillights and a clean boot design. The bumper is sculpted with black accents and red reflectors for a sporty touch.
Interior

Step inside and the cabin of the 2 Series Gran Coupe feels premium, with soft-touch materials. It gets the choice of two interior themes: Oyster (beige) and Mocha. The dashboard has a clean and modern layout featuring a large curved display that combines the touchscreen infotainment system and the digital instrument cluster into one unit. The centre console is slightly angled towards the driver, making it easier to reach the controls.
There are minimal physical buttons, giving the dashboard a sleek and uncluttered look. There are silver accents and ambient lighting strips running across for added contrast, while the AC vents are neatly integrated and sit below the screen.

The rear seats feature three adjustable headrests for all three passengers. There’s also a rear centre armrest with cupholders for added comfort.
Features & Safety

The BMW 2 Series comes well-equipped with a host of modern features, including a 10.7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.24-inch digital driver’s display, dual-zone automatic climate control with rear AC vents, ambient lighting, and cruise control. It also gets an interior camera, a wireless phone charger, a 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, a head-up display, and a new digital key for added convenience.
In terms of safety, the car offers multiple airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), an electronic parking brake with auto-hold function, ISOFIX child seat mounts, a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), a dashcam, a rear parking camera, and a suite of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).
Powertrain Option

Unlike the previous-gen model that came with both petrol and diesel engine options, the new 2 Series Gran Coupe is offered with only a smaller three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine, which makes less power than the older 2-litre engine. The specifications are as follows:
