Tata And Mahindra Are Now Accepting Orders For Their Latest Offerings

Deliveries of the Mahindra XUV300 TurboSport are now underway while those of the Tiago EV will begin from January

• Tata has opened bookings for the Tiago EV for Rs 21,000.

• Test drives are already underway for the Mahindra XUV300 TurboSport.

• The Tiago EV gets two battery pack options with a claimed range of up to 315km.

• Mahindra has equipped the XUV300 TurboSport with a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine, making 20PS and 30Nm more than the regular version.

• Tata’s EV starts from Rs 8.49 lakh while the XUV300 TurboSport has a starting price of Rs 10.35 lakh (ex-showroom pan-India).

Tata recently launched its most-affordable electric car, the Tiago EV, while Mahindra came out with the sportier iteration of the XUV300, called the XUV300 TurboSport. While both are poles apart when it comes to what’s powering them, there’s one thing in common between the two models: their bookings are now underway.

Tata has opened bookings for Rs 21,000 for the Tiago EV but its deliveries will begin from the new year. While the electric hatchback will be on display at select malls in major cities from October itself, its test drives are slated to commence from December.

On the other hand, Mahindra has announced that test drives and deliveries of the XUV300 TurboSport have now begun as well.

Let’s check the specifications of the EV first:

The Tata Tiago EV is being offered with a choice of two battery packs (19.2kWh and 24kWh). Their Modified Indian Driving Cycle-rated (MIDC) range figures stand at 250km and 315km, respectively. With the larger unit, you also get the option to pick from either a 3.3kW AC charger or a 7.2kW AC fast charger.

Speaking of performance, the electric hatch has a motor tuned to produce 61PS/104Nm and 75PS/114Nm, respectively. Tata has also equipped the Tiago EV with four-level regenerative braking and two drive modes: City and Sport.

Here’s a look at its charging options:

• 15A socket charger (up to 8.7 hours)

• 3.3 kW AC charger (up to 6.4 hours)

• 7.2kW AC charger (up to 3.36 hours)

• DC fast charger with 10-80 percent charge in 57 minutes.

Now, coming to the Mahindra XUV300 TurboSport:

The carmaker has provided it with a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine, making 130PS and 230Nm with an optional overboost of up to 250Nm. It comes only with a six-speed manual shifter. In the regular variants, though, this engine is rated at 110PS/200Nm, along with an option of a six-speed AMT as well.

Tata has priced the Tiago EV between Rs 8.49 lakh and Rs 11.79 lakh (introductory ex-showroom Delhi) while Mahindra has priced the XUV300 TurboSport from Rs 10.35 lakh to Rs 12.90 lakh (ex-showroom pan-India). The Tata EV will be an affordable option to the upcoming Citroen C3 EV whereas the Mahindra SUV goes up against the Hyundai Venue N Line.
