Mahindra's last launch was TUV300, which marked the manufacturer’s presence in the compact SUV segment. Stacked against the likes of EcoSport, Duster, Creta and S-Cross, it is doing quite decently given the car has mileage less than its competition. As confirmed, Mahindra is bringing in the KUV100 on January 15th, the bookings of which has already been started. It's a hatchback sized car that looks like an SUV. Let's find out, what’s more special about it.

You see, we Indians want something that is compact to fit in our parking lots but at the same time, should be big enough to make our neighbours envious; and under initial impressions, I would say KUV100 looks nothing like a hatchback. The butch front ends with aggressive eyebrow like flickers that extend to the front door. The sleek grill flanked by aggressive headlamp cluster flaunting DRLs and a tall bumper with muscular carvings make complete sense in this mini SUV. Move to the sides and you will see the sleek body cladding underlining that runs toward the end and wraps around the car. The rear wheels also get the muscular metal-shroud-sort of a flick, similar to the ones on the front wheel arch. The rear of the car could be noticed for a short while in the advertisement, which indicates that it will be equally sporty. The only drawback that I found are the wheels that seem small compared to the car, however, this might be because of the computer generated rendering and the actual car might shed my confusion.

Speaking of the interiors, though there is no sneak peak showcased from Mahindra, we expect it to be good looking and versatile. In a spy shot that surfaced few months ago, we were able to spot three seats on the front row along with a dashboard mounted gear lever. It is said that some of the design inputs are yielded from Pininfarina, a renowned design firm from Italy that the homegrown manufacturer recently acquired.

  • mFalcon G80 - 1.2-liter 3-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol 82bhp @ 5,500rpm and 114Nm of peak torque at 3,500rpm
  • Transmission - At the time of launch, KUV100 will be only available with a 5-speed MT, however, there’s a possibility that Mahindra will introduce an automatic at later stages.

So, KUV100 will be offered with both the diesel and petrol engines and we can expect the mileage of diesel to be above 20 kmpl while petrol motor’s fuel economy might hover around 18kmpl.
