If you are in the market for a powerful diesel hatchback, you have very limited options in India. This segment has been ruled by the Volkswagen Polo GT TDI. It has a powerful diesel engine with a manual transmission, is loaded with a lot of features and also looks sporty. Although the Ford Figo also has a powerful diesel engine, it couldn't appeal to many enthusiasts as it didn’t look sporty enough. However, Ford has now introduced the Figo Sports with a retuned suspension for better handling. It also features sporty-looking add-ons like 15-inch black alloy wheels, dual-tone exterior and roof spoiler. Let's compare the specifications of both the cars to find out which fast-er diesel hatchback should you put your money on.

The Polo is longer than the Ford Figo by 85mm. However, the Figo has a 22mm longer wheelbase which should result in a spacious cabin. The Figo is also wider and taller than the Polo. The Polo, on the other hand, has a bigger boot of 295 litres. Both the cars ride on 15-inch alloy wheels, but the Figo has wider tyres and offers 9mm more ground clearance than the Polo.

Well, this is the segment you should be excited about. Both the cars have a 1.5-litre diesel engine, but the one in the Volkswagen Polo is more powerful. It produces 10PS more power and 35Nm more torque than the engine on the Figo. But this has its downside too as the engine on the Figo is more fuel efficient and returns a mileage of 24.29 Kmpl which is quite impressive for a sporty hatchback. Both the cars have a five-speed manual transmission.

Price and Features

While the Figo Sports is priced at Rs 7.21 lakh, the Polo GT TDI has a price tag of Rs 9.32 lakh (both prices ex-showroom, Delhi). Even though the Polo is almost Rs 2 lakh more expensive than the Figo, it also gets additional features like a touchscreen infotainment system, cruise control, aluminium pedal cluster and a cooled glove box. However, there's no denying the fact that the Figo is good value for money. It gives an impressive performance and also stands out thanks to dual-tone exteriors, black grille and rear spoiler. Both the cars come with features like dual airbags, ABS, automatic climate control and contrast stitching on seats and steering wheel. With the launch of the Figo Sports, Ford is back in the race in the driver-centric budget hot hatch segment.
