Although the design on both iterations of the Harrier are similar, the EV gets some new design elements, plenty more features and even updates underneath the skin
After being tested for a long time, Tata Motors has launched its flagship Harrier EV with prices starting from Rs 21.49 lakh (introductory ex-showroom). While it features a similar design silhouette as the fossil-fuel-powered Harrier, the carmaker has introduced some new design elements and a new cabin theme that make it stand out. Let us take a look at all the differences between the ICE (internal combustion engine) and EV-powered iterations of Harrier with the help of 15 images:
Front

The Harrier EV features vertically-stacked LED headlight setup and connected LED DRLs that look similar to the ICE-powered Harrier.
What’s different, however, is that the electric iteration gets a blanked-off grille and silver slats and a faux silver on the bumper. The regular Harrier, on the other hand, gets a black grille with silver elements that is also carried onto the front bumper.
Side

In profile, both Harrier versions get 19-inch alloy wheels, the only difference being in their design, where the electric version gets aerodynamic inserts in its rims for a slightly enhanced range. The Harrier EV also gets a silver kink on the C-pillar which is black in the regular model.
Other than this, everything else including the rugged black cladding on the doors and wheel arches, black outside rearview mirrors (ORVMs) and black roof rails are identical to both iterations of the SUV.
Rear

The rear design of both the ICE-powered Harrier and the Harrier EV are also similar with connected LED tail lights, roof-mounted spoiler and a rear wiper and washer. Both SUV versions also get black bumper with a faux silver skid plate for added contrast. However, keen eyed viewers will notice that the skid plate on the electric version has vertical slats on it.
Another difference is that the shark fin antenna of the Harrier EV features a camera that shows the rear traffic feed on the inside rearview mirror (IRVM), something that is missing on the regular Harrier.
The colour schemes of both SUVs are also a tad bit different. Here are the details:

Both the Tata Harrier ICE and EV get a Stealth edition that equips them with a matte black exterior and interior hue. However, the ICE-powered Harrier also gets a Dark edition that renders it with a gloss black finish inside-out. We expect the Tata Harrier EV Dark Edition to be made available in the future.
Interior

Inside, while the dashboard layout of the Harrier EV is similar to its fossil-fuel-powered counterpart, the cabin themes vary. The regular Harrier gets an option between multiple colour schemes depending on the variant you pick, while the Harrier EV is available only with a white and grey theme, that is similar to the Curvv EV.

Another major difference is that the Harrier EV gets a 14.5-inch infotainment system, which is larger than the 12.3-inch unit of the regular Harrier. Other than this, everything else including the 10.25-inch digital driver’s display and a 4-spoke steering wheel with illuminated logo is shared between both SUV versions.
The leatherette seat upholstery is also different with the EV iteration getting a grey and white theme, while the ICE-powered model gets different colours depending on the variant you pick.
Features And Safety
Features such as a panoramic sunroof, a wireless phone charger, powered and ventilated front seats, memory function on the driver’s seat, multi-colour ambient lighting, 10-speaker JBL sound system and a powered tail gate are common between both versions of the Harrier.
However, the Harrier EV goes a step further by offering a boss mode function on the front passenger seat, transparent mode with the 360-degree camera, off-road assist, boost mode and 6 terrain modes including Normal, Rock Crawl, Snow/Grass, Mud Ruts, Sand, and a Custom mode. All of these features are missing on the regular Harrier.
The safety suite of both SUVs are equipped with 7 airbags (6 as standard), hill hold and descent control, electronic parking brake with auto hold, front and rear parking sensors, 360-degree camera with blind spot monitor, Level-2 ADAS and ISOFIX child seat anchorages.
Here too, the Harrier EV packs more features such as a digital IRVM and auto park assist, both of which are not offered with the regular Harrier.
Powertrain Options
The ICE-powered Tata Harrier gets a 2-litre diesel engine which is mated with either a 6-speed MT or a 6-speed AT and puts out 170 PS and 350 Nm. It is available only with a front-wheel-drive (FWD) setup.
On the other hand, the Harrier EV gets a choice between a 65 kWh and a 75 kWh battery pack options. These are paired with either a single-motor or a dual-motor setup. In the dual-motor version, there is one motor on each axle, with a 158 PS motor at the front and a 238 PS motor at the rear. This setup delivers up to 504 Nm of peak torque. Depending on the variant, the Harrier EV offers a claimed range of up to 627 km.
Price And Rivals

The Tata Harrier EV starts from Rs 21.49 lakh while the prices of the combustion-powered Harrier ranges between Rs 15 lakh and Rs 26.50 lakh. While the Harrier EV locks horns with the Mahindra XEV 9e and BYD Atto 3, the regular Harrier competes against the MG Hector and Jeep Compass.
