When compared head-to-head, it’s the Harrier’s Adventure X Plus variant with the manual gearbox that is more affordable (by Rs 16,000) than the corresponding diesel-MT Platinum variant of the Hyundai Alcazar.
That said, the Alcazar Platinum diesel-AT combo comes in both 6- and 7-seater configurations, making the latter more affordable by almost Rs 10,000 over the corresponding variant of the Tata SUV. In terms of dimensions, it is the Harrier that is larger and bigger in every aspect save for the wheelbase. With the Alcazar being a 3-row offering, it naturally has the advantage of the additional wheelbase (for a roomier cabin), although its length is shorter than the Harrier’s. The biggest difference, however, comes when their widths are considered, with the Tata SUV leading by 122 mm.

The Tata Harrier Adventure X Plus gets the win in the powertrain department as it has a larger 2-litre diesel unit under its hood. It makes more power and torque, developing 54 PS and 100 Nm more than the Alcazar’s diesel mill. However, both the SUVs get the same set of transmission choices and both have a front-wheel drive (FWD) setup.

Both variants of the SUVs here feature plenty of good-to-have features like all-LED lighting, a big touchscreen infotainment system, and a beefy safety net that includes six airbags, a 360-degree camera, and Level-2 ADAS.

The Tata Harrier Adventure X Plus certainly packs in a lot of features and safety tech for its price. It is for buyers looking to pick a 5-seater SUV which is slightly bigger than a compact SUV but with a well-equipped set of amenities. It also has a fresh cabin theme to distinguish itself from its regular version and competitors. The Tata SUV has the advantage of having a larger diesel engine under its hood with a higher output too.
On the other hand, the Alcazar Platinum variant, with the diesel powertrain, should be your pick if you want a 3-row SUV for your big family that packs plenty of technology, including an 8-way power-adjustable driver seat, an 8-speaker sound system, and dual-zone AC. Its diesel powertrain will perform its duties without breaking a sweat during your daily city roundabouts and occasional outstation journeys.
