[Update: The Volkswagen Tayron R Line has been launched in India at an introductory ex-showroom price of Rs 46.99 lakh.]

Volkswagen Tayron R-Line has been unveiled in India as the most premium SUV of the carmaker. It is basically the 7-seater version of the Tiguan R-Line and is set to go on sale soon. For those who want to take a closer look, scroll down as we take you through its intricate design details.

Exterior

Front

  • The front fascia of the Tayron R-Line has dual-pod LED headlamps that are connected by a light bar.

  • The slim black grille, which houses the light bar, has an R logo, which signifies its R-Line identity.

  • The lower bumper has a broad diamond-shaped grille with sharp cuts and creases.

  • There are no separate fog lamps down in the bumper section.

  • The silver lip at the bottom subtly adds contrast to the front.

Interesting Detail:

The VW badge sits right in the middle, and while it looks finished in chrome during the day, it is actually illuminated.

Side

  • From the side, the Tayron has an elongated length and wheelbase over the Tiguan, hinting at its third row.

  • The Tayron sits on 19-inch dual tone alloy wheels.

  • The silver trim around the glass area gives it a dash of contrast in darker shades.

  • Up top, the roof rails make the profile look athletic.

Smaller Detail:

The wheel arches get a fine gloss finish for a premium look.

Rear

  • The full-width LED light bar stretches across the tailgate, making the SUV look wider. Even the rear VW logo is illuminated.

  • The tail-lamps are sharp and layered, with crisp LED elements.

  • Lower down, the blacked-out bumper comes with the diamond-pattern inserts.

Interior

  • The interior has a dark black and grey theme with a minimalistic dashboard and a large 15-inch floating touchscreen.

  • The dashboard is finished in plenty of soft-touch surfaces and subtle metallic accents.

  • The black leather upholstery gets contrastive blue stitching and perforations for ventilation.

  • A large panoramic sunroof brightens up the cabin and adds a strong sense of airiness.

  • The second row gets a sliding and reclining functionality for added practicality. This is the main reason to get the Tayron over the Tiguan - an extra row of seats.

Interesting detail:

A multi-function knob is present on the floor console to change drive modes and volume.

Features Safety

On the feature front, the Tayron R-Line is loaded with features like a large 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system paired with a 10.25-inch fully digital driver’s display, along with a premium Harman Kardon sound system and connected car technology.

You also get a heads-up display, massage function for the front seats along with ventilation and heating, 3-zone automatic climate control, dual wireless phone chargers, and customisable 30-colour ambient lighting to set the mood inside the cabin.

Safety is equally well covered. It comes with 9 airbags, front and rear parking sensors, an electronic parking brake, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), a 360-degree camera, and disc brakes on all four wheels. It also gets level-2 ADAS (advanced driver assistance systems).

Powertrain

The Tayron R-Line is offered with a single enthusiast-friendly engine option; specifications as follows:

Engine

2-litre turbo-petrol

Transmission

7-speed DCT*

Power

204 PS

Torque

320 Nm

Drivetrain

All-wheel drive

*DCT- dual clutch automatic transmission

Expected Price Rivals

The Volkswagen Tayron R-Line is supposedly the carmaker’s new flagship and hence, you can expect it to be priced around the same range as the Tiguan R-Line, which comes at Rs 45.73 lakh (ex-showroom). That’s because the Tayron R-Line is locally assembled in India, while the Tiguan R-Line is a full import.

It's VW’s version of the Skoda Kodiaq and it will rival other premium SUVs like Toyota Fortuner, Jeep Meridian and the upcoming MG Majestor.
