Explore the variant-wise features of the Altroz in detail ahead of its launch

Tata has unveiled the Altroz premium hatchback ahead of its launch in January 2020. The carmaker has revealed many details including the variants and the respective features on offer. The Tata Altroz will be offered in five trim levels: XE, XM, XT, XZ and XZ(O), sticking to the Tata nomenclature.

Here are the specifications of these variants:

XE (base variant)

It gets the mandatory safety equipment such as ABS with EBD, dual front airbags, rear parking sensors, ISOFIX anchorage, speed alert and seatbelt reminders. The XE also gets a manually controlled AC and two driving modes: Eco and City. Altroz gets body-coloured bumpers and door handles, piano black ORVMs, blacked-out B-pillar, and black applique on the bootlid and spoiler as standard.

Other standard features include umbrella holders in the front doors, front power outlet, 4-inch LCD MID in the instrument cluster, tilt-adjustable steering, automatic door re-lock, front power windows and a flat rear floor. This entry-level variant is expected to be priced low enough to undercut most rivals.

XM (on top of XE features)

Go one step up and the Altroz gets few more conveniences. The Altroz XZ comes with a 3.5-inch display for the infotainment system, rear parking assist, ambient lighting in the driver footwell along with powered ORVMs. It has 2 speakers for the audio system with radio, Bluetooth and USB connectivity. The XM also gets a rear parcel tray and rear power windows. 

XT (on top of XM features)

This is where the premium features begin for the Altroz, one trim below the top-spec option. In the XT variant, Tata offers a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and cruise control. It also gets LED DRLs, a rear parking camera positioned discreetly on the blacked-out portion of the bootlid, push-button start-stop and idle stop-start for improved fuel efficiency. From this variant, the Altroz also gets perimetric alarm as a safety add-on. 

Other features include chrome finish on the dashboard layout, cooled glove box with lighting, voice alerts, front fog lamps with cornering function, anti-glare IRVM, keyless entry, follow-me-home headlamps and a dual horn. The audio system gets 4 speakers with 2 tweeters and XT also gets steering-mounted media controls, video playback, voice commands, customisable infotainment screen and fast USB charger. 

XZ (on top of XT features)

The top-spec variant of the Tata Altroz is the head turner with all the bells and whistles. It gets dual-tone 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels and projector headlamps. This fully loaded variant is equipped with features such as segment-first 7-inch TFT display in the instrument cluster, auto AC, rear AC vents, front and rear armrests, rain sensing wipers, auto headlamps, ambient lighting, and even a wearable key.

It also gets chrome on the ORVMs, leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear lever, mood lighting around the infotainment screen, sunglass holder and knitted headliner. The XZ also gets rear wiper-washer, rear defogger, rear power outlet, flat-type front wiper blades and height adjustable front seatbelts.

XZ(O) (on top of XZ features)

It gets the option of a blacked-out roof but only with these exterior colour options: gold, white and red.

Expected Prices

At its unveil, Tata only detailed the manual transmission option for the 1.2-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel BS6 engines that will be offered in the Altroz. The premium hatchback is expected to be priced between Rs 5.5 lakh and Rs 8.5 lakh without an AMT option at launch. It will rival the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Hyundai Elite i20, Toyota Glanza, Volkswagen Polo and Honda Jazz.
