Skoda to roll out Rapid sedan on November 16th

Skoda India has confirmed the launch of its new car Skoda Rapid slated to take place on November 16^th at New Delhi. Skoda Rapid is being built on the same platform as that of Volkswagen Vento with its fascia sharing resemblance with Skoda Fabia. Moreover, the sedan is being manufactured at the Volkswagen's Chakan plant near Pune along with Volkswagen Vento. The Skoda Rapid price is however likely to be placed slightly under Volkswagen Vento to mark it as the most affordable sedan after Nissan Sunny in the C segment cars.

Skoda India is likely to benefit substantially from the low production costs as most of the components are shared between Skoda and its parent company Volkswagen. Both the sedans are said to share quite a few similarities in terms of dashboard and most of the interiors. The Skoda badge and slightly different fascia with Fabia looks are the factors to mark the distinction from the Volkswagen Vento. Furthermore, the Skoda Rapid will have the same petrol and diesel engines similar to Volkswagen Vento. The 1.6 L petrol engine has the capacity to produce 105 Bhp and 160 Nm peak torque, while the 1.5 L diesel engine churns out the peak power of 105 Bhp and 250 Nm peak torque. The engines are speculated to be mated with a standard 5 speed manual gearbox, nevertheless the manufacturer might also consider a six speed dual clutch automatic gearbox in the petrol and diesel variants as well.

The Volkswagen Vento on the other hand has an automatic gearbox version for its petrol variant, but devoid of it in the diesel variant. Car makers are introducing fresh car models sharing the platforms of cars from their sister concerns. With Skoda Rapid on one hand built on the Volkswagen Vento platform, Skoda Citigo hatchback is another example sharing the same design of upcoming Volkswagen Up!.
