Next-Generation Hyundai Elantra

Hyundai had one of the largest podiums at the 2016 Indian Auto Expo, and the Korean automaker brought an extensive line-up of cars which included concepts and production-spec models that are slated to be launched in India soon. This included the likes of the Hyundai Tucson, which is expected to be launched by the end of  2016 in India, and the Hyundai Carlino, which will spawn a sub-4 metre compact SUV that will also make its way  to India very soon. One car, however, missed this biennial event: the Hyundai Elantra that has been spied testing on Indian streets recently. But a report claims that this executive sedan will make its way into showrooms sometime in May 2016.

The report goes on to state that the next-generation Hyundai Elantra will incorporate  two petrol engine options, which will include a 1.6-litre and a 2.0-litre motor. This is to say that the 1.6-litre motor will make its way into the lower variants of Hyundai Elantra, which will help the car to be priced competitively and will make it accessible to a wide range of consumers. The 2.0-litre powerplant, however, will be for those who are looking for a performance-oriented sedan. The 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol power plant, which was seen in the car that was showcased during the next-generation Elantra’s global debut at the Los Angeles Motor Show last year, will not be making its way to India.

As far as diesel powerplants are concerned, the report claims that Hyundai’s executive sedan will be offered with a 1.6-litre GDi motor, which will find its application in one of the most frugal variants of the sedan. The next-generation Hyundai Elantra is expected to be offered with either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission as standard, whereas the 7-speed dual clutch automatic gearbox will only be offered as an option. These transmission units are expected to be made available on both petrol and diesel models, which means customers who are looking for a comfortable ride will not have to compromise on the performance of a petrol engine or the frugal fuel economy offered by a diesel motor. We expect the Elantra to feature a price tag that falls in the ballpark of Rs. 14.5 lakhs and, when launched, the car will rival the likes of Chevrolet Cruze, Toyota Corolla and Renault Fluence.
