November 27, 2014: The Next-Gen Fluence has been digitally rendered, and the car looks way more sporty than the current one. It was spied a few days back on French soil but was covered in heavy camouflage. It is expected to be unveiled sometime in 2016. Nothing could be said about the Indian launch of the vehicle, but we can expect it to come by the end of 2016.

    Overall Experience After a lot of research on D segment cars, I have finally zeroed in Elantra and Fluence, as both were coming with the same price tag for the high-end version. Other D segment cars are not on the list due to lack of features in the Cruze and higher cost on Jetta or Octavia for the same features that we get in Fluence or Elantra. In terms of engine, of course, we cannot zoom on the Indian roads at leat for 1km at a stretch. So, the engine is not in my preference. So, finally, ... 21

This manufacturer is one of the reputed car makers in the country, which has a number of stylish vehicles in their fleet. It tasted success in the luxury car segment of the country with its sedan model, Renault Fluence . It is packed with a wide variety of features along with a power packed diesel engine. The company is selling this model series in two variant, which are E2 and E4. These trims are powered by a 1.5-litre, K9K, diesel engine under the hood that can displace 1461cc. The company has given this sleek looking sedan an aerodynamic body structure and it includes a set of exclusive features that will further add to its style. To begin with front facade, it has a wide windshield that is accompanied with a couple of intermittent wipers, while E4 variant gets a pair of variable rain sensing wipers. Its sleek and slanting forward bonnet looks quite stylish with a few visible character lines on it. It has a bold radiator grille that is equipped with a thick chrome slat and embedded with a prominent company logo in the center. It is flanked by a radiant headlight cluster that is incorporated with projector halogen lamps and side turn indicator. Just below this, it has a body colored bumper, which houses a wide air intake section for cooling the engine. This air dam is surrounded by a pair of glossy black finished fog lamps that adds to the visibility. It is equipped with LED day time running lights gives the frontage an elegant appeal. At the same time, the company has designed its side profile with some strong character lines and silver finished door handles. Its window sill and B pillars are in a black finish, which gives the side profile a decent look. The overall dimensions of this sedan series are quite standard and can easily accommodate five passengers. It has a large wheelbase of about 2703mm that ensures ample leg space for all occupants inside the cabin. Its minimum ground clearance is about 168mm. The overall length measures about 4618mm along with a total height of 1488mm and a decent width of 1813mm, which includes external rear view mirrors. Editor's take : The interiors of the Fluence are spacious and even the quality of the plastics is good, and so is the fit and finish and even the feel.

The internal section is done up elegantly and it is in an attractive dual tone color scheme that gives a pleasant feel to its passengers, while traveling. The cabin is designed with a five seating arrangement and includes a number of sophisticated features. There are well cushioned seats incorporated, which are covered with premium fabric upholstery in the E2 trim. While the seats in its high end variant are covered with plush leather upholstery. These are integrated with adjustable head restraints and center armrest with cup holders. The rear seat comes with split foldable function, which helps in increasing the boot volume of car. It has a soft touch dashboard that is integrated with a three spoke steering wheel with multifunctional switches, chrome accentuated AC vents, an advanced instrument panel with various functions and a large glove box for keeping some small things at hand. It also has an elegantly crafted central console that is fitted with an advanced music system with a few input options. The driver's seat in the E4 variant is available with lumbar support and it has electrical adjustment function. The cabin is quite spacious and there is enough leg as well as shoulder room offered to its passengers. The chrome finishing to gear shift knob and parking lever tip further gives a classy look to its interiors. In addition to these, it includes a few utility based aspects like cup and bottle holders, sun visors with vanity mirror, rear parcel shelf, front seat back pockets, three assist grips with coat hook and a few other features. It allows the sedan to deliver about 17.2 Kmpl within the city limits, while its mileage goes up to 20.04 Kmpl on the bigger roads, which is also approved by the ARAI (Automotive Research Association of India).

Editor's Take: The ride on the Fluence is pliant like any other French vehicles and even the handling is good. It has been built to go racer boy, but sufficient for overtaking in city and on the highway.


The company has given this vehicle an efficient braking as well as reliable suspension mechanism, which keeps it well balanced and stable at all times. Its braking mechanism is further assisted by anti lock braking system along with electronic brake force distribution. It also has anti slip regulation function, which prevents the traction while driving. The front wheels are fitted with a set of ventilated disc brakes, while the rear ones have been equipped with conventional set of solid disc brakes. This mechanism is further improved by brake assist system. The front axle is assembled with a McPherson strut, whereas the rear one gets a trailing arm type of mechanism. These axles are assisted by double acting shock absorbers and coil springs that keeps the vehicle stable. On the other hand, it is equipped with an electric variable and speed proportional power assisted steering system.
