Its design is an evolution of the car it replaces and marks the start of a new generation of Mahindra SUVs

The Mahindra XUV700 has finally broken cover. This replacement for the XUV500 has been highly anticipated and while the launch and deliveries are still some time away, we can now go over its exterior and without any camouflage whatsoever.

The XUV700 is the first of the new-gen Mahindra SUVs and the first to feature the brand’s new design language. It is larger than the model it replaces but still has similar proportions. The styling seems like an evolution of the XUV500, retaining the signature cues that resonate with fans of the brand.

Front

The front-end was the design highlight of the XUV500 and it’s a similar story with the XUV700. It is also the first Mahindra to bear the carmaker’s new ‘Twin Peaks’ logo on its grille with slats that mirror the lines of the logo in the centre.

Here’s A Look At The Standout Features Of Each Variant Of The Mahindra XUV700

The grille takes up most of the front bumper. There is also a small air dam section and a small front splitter design integrated into the bumper.

Its tall bonnet slopes forward before becoming vertically flat for the grille, which makes it look more dynamic than boxy in shape.

Headlamps

The shape of the XUV700’s LED headlamps is an evolution of the design language we’ve seen on the XUV300. It also has integrated sequential LED indicators and C-shaped LED daytime running lights at the top that drop down the bumper as much as the grille does.

It also gets LED fog lamps housed in the bottom row of the front bumper with black housing that is integrated into the air dam design.

Rear

The rear of the XUV700 is well sculpted with dynamic curves. It has a roof-integrated spoiler which accentuates the mild slope at the end of the roofline. There are fewer design elements at the rear than the front, which gives it a cleaner look.

The thicker cladding and the silver rear skid plate add some styling to an otherwise chunky rear bumper. The badging seen on the tailgate includes the new Mahindra logo, the XUV700 lettering, and variant badges on the bottom right.

Taillamps

Mahindra describes the XUV700’s LED taillamps as arrow-shaped. These are split across the tailgate and divided into various sections. The middle elements are for the sequential turn indicators while the smallest section at the bottom is for the reversing lamps.

Side profile

The proportions of the XUV700 are most noticeable from this angle as it stands 4695mm long with a wheelbase measuring 2750mm. Its height of 1755mm makes it look proportionately tall for its size.

The character lines along the bottom carve a muscular shape into the side of the SUV while the shoulder line rises upward from the front to the rear of the car. This muscular detail is similar to what was seen on the XUV500. All pillars after the A-pillar are blacked out for the floating roof effect but the bottom of the windowline is chrome. The rear quarter panel is large enough to improve the experience for those in the third row of seats in the seven-seater variants.

There is cladding along the bottom edge that runs uninterrupted from the front wheel arches, along the sides, and all the way round.

The door handles are one of the cool new design features of the XUV700. They sit flush with the body, like in much more expensive cars. The rear of the handle pops outwards to grab and pull on in order to open the door. Since there’s nothing to highlight their presence, they are hidden in plain sight.

The variants that feature Mahindra's new AdrenoX infotainment system also sport a badge on the front-left fender to advertise that.

Wheels

Mahindra will fit the XUV700 with 17-inch wheels as standard while the top variant will get the multi-spoke diamond-cut 18-inch alloy wheels seen here. Those are the same wheel sizes that were offered with the XUV500 it replaces.

The XUV700 will be offered with the choice of turbo-petrol and diesel engines, both with manual and automatic transmissions. It will also be available with an all-wheel drive variant. It will be rivalling the likes of the Tata Harrier and Safari, Hyundai Alcazar, and MG Hector and MG Hector Plus. While the launch will happen a few weeks later, Mahindra has revealed the prices of some variants including the starting price of Rs 11.99 lakh (ex-showroom).
