After its brief stint in Formula One as Jaguar Racing, the Indian-owned luxury brand has announced today that it will be entering the world of motorsport once again and this time Formula E will be the feline brand€™s prancing ground. Frormula E is an electric racing motorsport and Jaguar announced that it will enter the league as a contender today.

Nick Rogers, Engineering Director of JLR Group said "Electric vehicles will absolutely play a role in Jaguar Land Rover's future product portfolio and Formula E will give us a unique opportunity to further our development of electrification technologies."

While entering the motorsport the Tata-owned company will join forces with Williams Advanced Engineering, which is a part of the Williams group (former Formula One champions). Jaguar has not been majorly involved with motorsport since 2004, back when it raced in Formula One and Ford motors owned both Jaguar and Aston Martin. Jaguar will be filling in one of ten slots that was vacated by the Italian Trulli team. Decades ago, the general consensus stood that motorsport enhances the brand€™s quality of cars, as advances in motorsport eventually make their way into the road cars. This was of course ages ago, when Formula One was a lot closer to Automotive industry than it was to Aeronautics, as it is now. With the growing demand for electric vehicles there is a possibility that the same rule will once again be applied to the world of automotive.
