The Xcent CNG is likely to feature a BS4 petrol engine with a BS6 upgrade expected before April 2020

  • The CNG kit will be offered on the mid-spec S variant of the Hyundai Xcent.
  • It will be offered to both private and fleet buyers.
  • The Xcent’s successor, known as the Aura, will launch in early 2020.
  • The Xcent will continue to be sold alongside the new Aura.
  • The Xcent is expected to become a petrol/CNG offering post Aura’s launch.

Hyundai recently revealed that its new sub-4m sedan will be called the Aura, which will be a successor to the Xcent. Now, an RTO document has surfaced online which hints at the possibility of the Xcent being offered with a CNG kit.

As per the document, Hyundai will offer the mid-spec S variant with the CNG option and it will be available for both private and fleet operators. Hence, it is safe to assume that the Xcent will be sold alongside the Aura just like the Grand i10 and the Nios.

The mid-spec S variant of the Xcent is offered with a BS4-compliant 1.2-litre petrol engine which produces 83PS and 114Nm of power and torque respectively. As per the document, the Xcent CNG puts out 66PS in CNG mode and 82PS in petrol mode. Hyundai is expected to offer the CNG variant with a 5-speed manual gearbox only. The Xcent is expected to become a petrol/CNG offering once the Aura is launched.

In terms of features, Hyundai will continue to offer the same equipment as that of the S variant of the current-gen Xcent. It gets a two-din audio system, manual AC, steering-mounted audio controls, LED DRLs, Bluetooth, USB and Aux connectivity, and a MID. What’s more, it will continue to come with safety features such as dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, driver and co-driver seatbelt warning and high speed alert.

The current-gen Xcent is priced between Rs 5.81 lakh and Rs 8.75 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), wherein the S variant is priced at Rs 6.43 lakh (solid) and Rs 6.47 lakh (metallic). Hyundai is expected to launch the Xcent CNG in the coming weeks. Since the Grand i10 CNG Magna variant commands a premium of around Rs 63,500 over the regular Magna variant, we expect the Xcent CNG variant’s price to go up by approximately the same amount.
